cwd
Yesterday, between 3:59 and 4PM ET, over 81,000 ES contracts changed hands. Today, between 3:59 and 4:01PM ET, over 88,000 ES contacts were traded. That’s roughly 20x the average per minute volume during the course of the day. During the past few weeks, I’ve also noticed some extreme volume spikes on the 1-minute NQ chart at critical support levels. Yesterday, Obama described Chrysler as “a pillar” of our industrial economy. If Chrysler is a pillar, then surely the stock market is nothing less than a keystone in the arch of our national economic security and should be buttressed by whatever means necessary. If you think this sounds silly, it’s probably because you’ve never sat in meetings where multi-billion dollar defense programs were pitched to the brass-hats, spooks, and assorted gubbermint bureaucrats who “keep the world safe for democracy.” I have – and I can tell you that selling a price-keeping program to them would be a slam-dunk. It doesn't sound silly to me.The stock market is the economy. The pension funds and the mutual funds held in the 401s are the savings of America. Also what better way for the borksters to make some quick cash to decrease their need from Timmy and Ben. It sounds like the cops are protecting the crooks. How can it be? Say it ain't so. Pretzel Logic
And then the THING appeared.... Run fur your lives bullz.... Goldman Sachs?€™s Cohen Says S&P 500 May Surge to 1,050 Anybody have that chart with her buy recs handy? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...&refer=home Ha! I have one chart that inspired me (way back in 2002/2003) to do this Abby Joseph Colon remix, "Queen of Bull" (which you just inspired me to listen to for the first time in years): http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?AID=156868&t=7890 The chart with her "we are talking about gains of a low double-digit nature" comment is my artist profile picture. This was done on the heels of the huge success of my Arch Crawford remix, which was actually a much better song, and which I doubt anyone but Doc remembers (done when Arch's feed went static on Business Center). (Btw, my "real" music, which I haven't updated in years on that site, can be found on the right side under "other AP profiles" for anyone interested). Jorma
Swine flu directly impacting my town. I left last night, and will be away for a few days. What scares me, is the age group at which this strain is attacking. http://www.gainesville.com/article/2009050...suspected-at-UF The current strain in the US at least appears to be quite mild. A case can be made that getting it now would be advantageous. I'm sure many if not most virologists would disagree. This is a story that will actually be played out over a period of years. Involving issues of further mutations, how easily transmitted it is or becomes, and its severity. All of which is just totally my crackpot outlook. Far less crackpot than a lot of the stuff going around. Especially the political and ideological stuff.

Pretzel Logic
Good memories, Pretz! Do you still have any of those old Mad Magazine covers you redid? That was awesome stuff. Pretty much anything else I did during that time period (most of which I can't even remember anymore) was lost when my hard drive crashed. I've gotten better about backing-up since then... but it's kind of a shame. I actually lost an entire book I was writing, of which 150+ pages were complete. Live and learn, as they say. quanta
Bond Insurer Can’t Pay Sellers of protection on debt issued by bond insurer Syncora Holdings will need to make payments to counterparties after the company suspended claims payments, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association said on Friday. ... The company is the first U.S. bond insurer to suspend claims payments as it struggles to reduce losses on about $8.6 billion of residential mortgage-backed securities it insured. The notional value of credit default swaps written on the debt of Syncora is about $18 billion, but the net value is about $1 billion, according to data from Depository Trust & Clearing Corp, which clears more than 90 percent of the market.
