Nikkers +3.3% is doing a catch-up after yesterday's holiday but it's fairly ordinary for the rest of the early openers: Kiwis +0.5%, Aussies +0.3%, Sth Korea +0.2% and Singers flat.

The only Aussie sectors moving are +1.7% and Telecomms +1.2%. REITS -0.7% is down the most.

All a bit of a fizzle today with All Ords closing +0.1%. Utilities +1.2% remained front runner with Telecomms +0.9% next in line. IT -0.9% and Energy -0.8% were the chief losers with little movement on the others.

Over in Asia, Nikkers is continuing to rise, +4.1%, China +0.2%, Honkers +0.2% and India +1%.

On to UK/Europe:

Becky Quick on her annual springtime Buffet "knob polishing" ritual

Ugh!

Pig.

Yesterday I saw CNBS touting a piece that Buffett is in Asia and he's with .............of course... Becky Quick....

This has become weird. Does he carry her around in his back pack?

As much as I used to like the guy, I can't stand him now. Ever since he sold out and played footsie with the Squid, he lost all credibility in my eyes.

Bwa ha .. What about when Buffet rolled in to bail out Solomon Brothers in 91?

Same sheet, no?

edit: oops .. meant 1987:

"He protected Salomon from the corporate raider Ronald O. Perlman and saved Mr. Gutfreund's job in 1987 by investing $700 million in Salomon preferred stock."

Mr. Trialballoon extraordinaire, Jon Hilsenrath, doin' the doo-doo that he-doo on the back of the Treasury MBS dumpage

_____

The Fed has been passively reducing those holdings by allowing mortgage bonds to be retired when they mature or get paid off by mortgage borrowers. Fed officials want to keep monetary policy easy to spur economic growth.

But as they move toward tightening policy, perhaps later this year or next, sales of mortgage-backed securities are likely to one of the tools they will consider using to tighten financial conditions.
