Captain's Log
anybody know why the tankers are tanking? Probably just temporarily overbought like a lot of oil stuff. However, there was an article on NPR this morning where a senior British Naval officer was saying that the Al-Q's are looking at attacking merchant shipping. Run. Panic. Btw: Have a nice day and don't forget to vote GOP. This is the whole fundamental problem with declaring war on terra'ism. A handful of people in the shadows will tie down disproportionate numbers of armed forces. It will aslo scare the hell out of the masses. We will not win (aslo will not loose either) with old tactics - Assigning uniformed armies trained in battlefield teqhniques to deal with guerilla's who blend into mainstream population. Bearbones
Bruce Springsteen in today's N.Y. Times: "I supported the decision to enter Afghanistan and I hoped that the seriousness of the times would bring forth strength, humility and wisdom in our leaders. Instead, we dived headlong into an unnecessary war in Iraq, offering up the lives of our young men and women under circumstances that are now discredited. We ran record deficits, while simultaneously cutting and squeezing services like afterschool programs. We granted tax cuts to the richest 1 percent (corporate bigwigs, well-to-do guitar players), increasing the division of wealth that threatens to destroy our social contract with one another and render mute the promise of "one nation indivisible." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/05/opinion/05bruce.html

Guest
anybody know why the tankers are tanking? I think you weren't around a month ago when End and discussed it. If there's no supply for them to carry (pipelines blown up etc.) then their contracts can be voided (pardon the expression). Also, significant terror event risk. Blow up the tankers -- who cares how much oil gets pumped? If any of that comes to pass, the insurers will either pull the coverage entirely -- invoking the 'war clause' -- or crank the premium up to say 20% of the cargo value. Hard to make money with that kind of overhead ... In fact I think the tankers are essentially "going nekkid" right now because of the "acts of war" clause. That's why they've had such a high dividend -- high risk. End got in at very low prices so he's not risking all that much. Anyone bothered to check insurance rates on tankers lately at Lloyds? brian4
Window now closed another beaut- Listen up we need a close below 1084 to slam the door and padlock it shut for any possibility of a rally no matter how weak. If we close below 1084 the market will fall like a rock. The Pig lays in a heap for awhile!
