Old Habits Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Watching cnbs this a.m. - they were reporting on Brown Forman's earnings. They said that sales of Jack Daniels were "strong". Isn't that some kind of a leading indicator? Finally closed escrow on my property in the desert after 84 days - my experience is that when the escrows go that long, there is a good chance it's not going to close. Just before the buyer signed his loan documents, he went out and charged $2,000 worth of hardwood flooring at Home Depot to install in his new house. The loan company made him pay it off before they would fund the loan. Do you think his financing was a little tight? I wonder what percentage of homebuyers are squeezing thru under the same circumstances? Scary stuff.
Guest Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 maybe i am asleep at the wheel, but this is, to my mind, a consolidation after a nice run up. sure i would love for this market to continue up, without this consolidation. But this is the nature of the gold markets until they get into a parabolic. this is all very constructive. trying-yes. confusing-yes if you are debating every squiggle. i am adding on pullbacks. taking my time. no debt. no margin. take a good look @the pennant in silver. it is boolish. gold broke out of declining resistance-boolish. so far the backtest is successful. the uptrend line on xau/hui is being held by the market. the 89 day ma is way below the market. this is nothing more than a consolidation before the next upmove. does the dolar chart look boolish. a couple of years of going down, losing 1/3 of its value and then a year correction. best of luck to all dharma

I don't know if silver is bullish or not, I do know that stocks like HL, CDE and SSRI are acting like crap. Is this the only sector where every rally has to be fully re-traced? By fully re-traced I mean we go from 212 to 203, then 203 to 219, then back to 203. That doesn't seem that bullish. No wonder traders get shaken out after a couple of hours or days. Hell, the broad market can't go down for more than one day at a time. Why mess with this? Anyway, I'm not selling anything. I haven't for nearly 3 years and won't start now but I AM wondering if the "parabolic" rally isn't just a figment of everyones imagination. Rant over - back to the cave.

Old Habits Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 It's a good thing we aren't smart enough to interpret the COT data and got clarification from the experts.

traderfromhell Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 It's a good thing we aren't smart enough to interpret the COT data and got clarification from the experts. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OH it's the net long specs not the commercials I think.
traderfromhell Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Taking a small bite today. PMPIX. Little price deterioation earlier with gold down 3 plus. GE Forum needs valium. We should get at least a short term pop from here.
Old Habits Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 It's a good thing we aren't smart enough to interpret the COT data and got clarification from the experts. ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OH it's the net long specs not the commercials I think. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is the short positions of the commercials that has been an accurate guage of direction. I think this is just another oncoming drubbing with a price target of $420. God knows where silver is heading. I hope I am wrong and your PMPIX position works for you, but frankly, I wish I was on the sidelines like you are. This is getting old. Have any extra Valium? Charmin - didn't WSE say that GG was going to hit a top at $16.40??? That's what I thought.
Guest Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 oh, it is death by a thousand cuts. this is going to take time, we bottomed in 01 top? we bottomed in 72 top in 80. its why i am not in a hurry. i have seen this act before. its going to take time. then when it goes parabolic, everyone raises their expectations and forgets to get out. their #s for the market are too high. or they get out early, bite the bullet and get back in @the top. have a position that you can remain on an even keel w/. but have it be big enough so if you are significantly right, you can not have to play for a while. also, when it looks toppy, although the scraps will be significant, walk away and say thank you. i have about 1/7 of liquid net assets in gold/silver stocks. i have about the same in the metals. if i lose it all, i still have enough to live for years. this is a really tough game. enjoy life, its not about worries. hug your lover alot and often. dharma
