fxfox Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Realtime update on the Christmas shopping rush from one of my contacts at Radio Shack. As of 11:00AM after being open for 4 hours the store has done about $4k in business which is substantially below expectations. Interestingly $3K or 75% of the total comes from Verizon Family Share contract signings. Where the store makes about $150 a head from Verizon while the customer walks out with a brand new phone for free. The Motorola v60 with the dark Titanium casing is a hot seller @$199 after rebate. very good info rog, tanks! I heard if this shopping day doesnt meet expectations many dealers will have their last "post-zanks-giffing" double whopper special income
richmtn Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Rich, do you notice yields affecting one index (ndx) more than the other or just all of them I've really only been following the relationship of yields and the S&P so I can't say. All the major indexes move pretty much together so... I'll check into it over the weakend. So far I have found no way to actually time the market with it. I'm fascinated tho. ps. yields have ticked up again.
sniff Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Heard on Doomberg (bloomberg) this morning, one of the floor traders was a bit suprised to see some of the head traders show up today. Said to watch last hour before close. Something about last day of month, window dressing.... May mean nothing.....

What time would you say the last 'tick up" on yields occured...10:49 or 11:14 AM perhaps?
Bird D Durr Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Off to shopping................ No "Capital One" in my pocket though................ The Bird Man is a Cash Playa......................
Fartpolio Manager Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 I'm happy with today... we got a little pop on the PMs, I still plan on phasing into some short positions today... We're in Bradley country here... this thing can lose it any time in the next week or so... The fact that the bears are all discouraged makes this an even higher possibility...

DrStool Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 rich- yields haven't moved in two hours. You are reading something into nothing. All these markets today are just random wobbles so far. STOP trying to analyze this crap. If it starts to move that's one thing. This is not CSI.
PileDriver Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 still twidling and tapping my foot...
rog Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 I am not short AMBAC, although I probably will at some point. Since corporate bonds have been rallying it makes sense that the bond insurers would also rally as "investors' now believe that all the problems in credit land have disappeared.

Rog, sorry to say this but those RadioShack customers are chumps. The verizon website lists this phone for $99.99 (without the 1 in front) and a couple of other retailers will give it to you for $49.99 (with the plan of course)... FWIW... RadioShack's got a good gig going...
Yoshaviah Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Ripshack will be closing all their stores and selling on line before too long. They closed one store in my area 2 years ago. Business was bad then and the rent was still cheap.
anoscope Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 I know about the short sell priority (last one to sell after all long sell orders, with the uptick rule on reg stocks), but is there a differnece in priority by design on short covering orders? do they get in 'after' the cash buys so they are usually higher?
GregFokker Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 RadioCack has consistently offered the worst service, worst personnel, and worst consumer electronic retail experience for at least 10 years. I'll dance in their ashes.
Charliss Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 ...This is not CSI. hehehe......good one!
