Where's the Power? 7/2/24

I started my summer of travel off on the wrong foot. I arrived just fine at my initial destination in Lyon, France, a wonderful City that I have visited many times. But, oops, I left my power adapter on the train. So I have a few hours of battery power left on my computer which isn't good. My first task today therefore will be to return to Gare Lyon Part Dieux (Don't ask 😄😄) to see if perhaps I get lucky and my adapter is in the lost and found.

If not, then the second step will be to go shopping at an electronics superstore where hopefully I can find an overpriced universal adapter.

And if I can't, then plan X. New compuker. 😂

Meanwhile there's this.

I think that it conforms to the official outlook. 😊

As does this.

I did not recover my adapter but I did get the power. Bought a new adapter at Darty, which is the French version of BestBuy.

Time is right for a 5 day cycle up phase, but we're already one day into it. Not auspicious for da bulls even though it looks higher at this moment. .

Lee, you called this a long time ago as one of your concerns about the direction the USA was heading.

The Supreme Court has legalized dictatorship. I don't see how anything can be done other than mass demonstrations, which can lead to a variety of outcomes. Possibilities include military suppression of those demonstrations, leading to a schism in the military and outright civil war.

Best case scenario would be a white-hat military coup and a new constitution that re-establishes democratic norms. This seems unlikely to me.

Or the suppression of the demonstrations is successful, and we end up with mass social repression, where only those who hold power enjoy any freedom, and everyone else is either in jail, or in fear of it. They live their lives with their heads down and their mouths shut. My friends in Eastern Europe know this life.

Or there are no big demonstrations and the opponents of the regime that exercises the powers the Supreme Court has given it simply acquiesce in the repression.

Or dead.

Just like Russia. In that case, Putin wins.

The corruption of the Supreme Court is breathtaking.

If the US is a functional dictatorship, then no place in the world will be safe for freedom of expression and life choices.

I think we're doomed. Sad that we must finish up our lives in a world descending into hell before we're even dead.

Social media is the wild card. But then AI is coming to kill all of us anyway.

Using 4 day period, cycle projection would be 5525. This is a 45 minute bar chart showing that.

Strasburg is one of the most beautiful and walkable cities in Europe. The Cathedral and the old town are stunning. I'd compare it to Krakow.

Nurnberg is haunting. Beautiful and terrifying. It shows how hideous the world could become, but the center and the old town is really nice. Quintessentially old European.

Haven't done Stuttgart or Karlsruhe. I will be in Munich in 2 weeks.

Warsaw in the second half of July. Staying right on Chmielna in the old Communist apparatchik high-rise across from the TK Maxx.

In the Alsace region, Colmar is fantastic, along with a couple of the smaller villages between Strasbourg and Mulhouse. All reachable on the regional trains that run every half hour or so between Strasbourg and Mulhouse.
