Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and and transient causes, and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, which evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations , pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

obviously you haven't used an iphone for any amount of time.

Those other phones are nice, but the iPhone has a number of features that aren't replicated anywhere else. and the iphone is marketed in several countries. A Chinese iphone is next.

the new CA budget agreement might already be in trouble. Counties and cities are talking lawsuits to restore the money that Sacramento is going to steal from them.

Hoo boy this is going to get ugly, especially when the budget gap widens again and real cuts are required.

The beast isn't going to go down without a massive fight.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to sue state lawmakers if they pursue plans to seize local redevelopment and highway taxes to cover the state budget deficit. Other local governments are expected to take similar actions to prevent major cuts proposed in the budget deal reached last night.

This morning, Supervisors Don Knabe and Zev Yaroslavsky proposed that county counsel sue to block any effort by the state to illegally withhold gas taxes or extend redevelopment projects, effectively redirecting taxes from the county to the state.

All of the supervisors approved the proposal except Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who was absent. “You’d think they’d be making better decisions than this,” Supervisor Gloria Molina said.

If the county sues to block the state from extending redevelopment projects, it will likely trigger a provision in the proposed legislation that allows the state to take $301 million in county Proposition 1A funds.

LOS ANGELES, July 21 (Reuters) - The day-old pact among California leaders to close the state's $26.3 billion budget gap came under fire on Tuesday as county and city governments threatened to sue to block a plan to seize local tax revenues as part of the deal.

City and council officials vowed to seek a court order barring the proposed diversion of $2 billion from local redevelopment agencies and $1.7 billion in highway tax collections into state coffers to help close the budget deficit.

Opponents argue that such moves are illegal because the state is prohibited under its constitution from grabbing revenues raised at the local level or earmarked specifically for county and municipal purposes.

They cited a recent state appeals court ruling that a similar diversion of $740 million in local public transit funds last year was unconstitutional.
