The White House argues that Geneva convention does not apply in Iraq, Afghanistan or Gitmo - because we are not technically at war.  jeesh

This is what happens when the political arm is also the policy arm in any

administration. Same as Nixon.

Technically it is a crime of passion or perhaps a temper tantrum.

"It is Saudi Arabia which has the capacity to produce more oil, but even if they do it will have no impact on the prices, which will remain high," Khelil told reporters in the Algerian capital.

Do we look surprised? ;)

a/d 3:1 at NYSE, it has been such a long time since seeing this type of advance that I first thought it must be an error!

Money center banks (BAC< JPM< C) were crushed over the last few days and are barely bouncing. Brazil (up 2.5% today) got waxed for 25% in 10 days. These clowns have been lending hand over fist to brazil to make the spread. Hinges on this closet door are buckling.

DJ Army Reservist Says She Was Ordered To Pose for Photos

DENVER (AP)--An Army reservist who was photographed smiling and pointing at naked, bound Iraqi prisoners had been ordered to pose because her presence would be especially humiliating to the men, her attorneys said.

The photos were staged by intelligence agents to intimidate other prisoners, and appearing naked in front of a young woman would be especially humiliating to Iraqi men, attorney Rose Mary Zapor said Monday.

Pfc. Lynndie R. England, 21, is charged with mistreating prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in a scandal that has sparked worldwide outrage.

"The (soldiers) pictured were congratulated. They were told the photographs were successful in gathering information," Zapor said.

Chris Mathews made a point last night that hit me like a brick. The military brass is happy to cooperate in this investigation because they know the scandal goes all the way to the top, and they hate Rummy. He evidently knew about and approved how things were run at the prison, including prisoner interrogation. What Congress is going to want to know is what did Bush really know, and when did he know it. This could be as big, or bigger, than Watergate.

Citi's Costly "Insurance Policy"
The huge charge the bank is taking to solve its WorldCom legal problems shocked investors. Worse, more suits may lie ahead

The nearly $5 billion charge Citigroup (C ) is taking to put its WorldCom legal problems behind it stunned Wall Street on May 10.
