Who really wants to hold long over the weekend, when all hell might break loose?

Like a border clash with Syria and/or Iran?

And what about this devil (Dostrum) we made a deal with in 2001? Wasn't he one of our 'allies' on the war on terror?

Afghan City Falls to Commander as Troops Fly In
Thu Apr 8, 2004 10:29 AM ET
KABUL (Reuters) - Forces of a renegade adviser to President Hamid Karzai overran the capital of a northern province on Thursday, creating a fresh security headache for Afghanistan's Western-backed government.

General Abdul Rashid Dostum's largely ethnic Uzbek militia invaded Faryab from neighboring provinces on Wednesday, prompting the central government to send national troops there on Thursday in an attempt to maintain control.

"Dostum loyalists have entered Maimana city," Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalai told a news briefing. "This is an unconstitutional act of interference by General Dostum."

Wholesale inventories surge 1.2% largely due to autos

Auto mfg are building cars at a rate far in excess of sell thru to keep high labor costs on the balance sheet instead of the income statement. Meanwhile the jackals at FIDO & ANUS are buying the autos because at this stage in the "recovery" auto sales should take off. Apparently their crackerjack research departments (remeber those ANUS ads with the camera in the utility lines: suggesting ANUS was actually counting fiber optic lines. Whoops) pay no attention to the level of rebates, lengthing car loans, collapsing used car prices, or actual sales trends (down in march yoy against the Iraq war numbers).

We have been building a short position in GM and will continue to add to that position into earnings. In addition to the growing inventory problem we believe that slowing refinancing activities at Ditech and problems in the GMAC auto and mortgage loan portfolios will no longer shield the losses from auto operations. Moreover we believe that these finance divisions will start to become earnings and growth liabilities instead of the engine of growth that they have been in the last few years.

You know what happens if all hell does NOT break loose.

Tanks Rog.

My favorite ANUS commercial was the one about Enron and how they understood the growth potential of the company. :P :P :P

Yeah.

The best declines are the ones where the Crapvision anchors are all scratching their heads and calling down to their trading floor correspondents.

sort of like the glob in Terminator 2, amorphous liquid silver coalescing into one mean mo'fukuh. The Terrorists seem to be getting more synchronized. One wonders what type of code/communication could bring this about.

Maybe the market finally realizes this won't be a 3-4 year slam dunk. It may actually be A War.

DJ UPDATE: German Aid Groups Consider Pulling Out Of Iraq

BERLIN (AP)--German humanitarian aid groups are considering pulling out of Iraq in light of the recent wave of violence, an aid groups spokesman said Thursday.

"We can no longer rule out the possibility that the bulk of the German relief organizations will pull out because of the exploding violence," said Hartmut Wilfert, spokesman for Aktion Deutschland Hilft, the umbrella organization for German aid organizations.

"We don't know how much longer the neutrality of our workers will be effective protection in this situation."

Wilfert said there are "many hundreds" of aid workers in Iraq and "less than 10" Germans, but would not give a specific number, citing security reasons.

Wilfert said evacuation plans are in place, but there is no specific timetable.

"The situation can change every hour," he said.
