TEXAS REFINERIES ON ALERT FOLLOWING THREATS
Friday, March 26, 2004
The FBI says yesterdays terrorist threats to South Texas oil refineries came from al Qaida. The threat has put refineries along the coast on heightened security alert this week, the bureau says the alleged threat comes from a single source and it could take place sometime between now and the election. Officials with oil refineries in Oklahoma say they`re mostly unaffected by the warnings.

I'm sure it will be deemed an accident shortly

Plant explosion in Texas City
An explosion at the BP Amoco chemical plant in Texas City Tuesday evening had residents being told not to leave their homes. The shelter-in-place has been lifted and the chemicals being burned were not toxic. There were no injuries.

Great minds think alike. Well done Sled & Col D. :wink2:
NONE of what I type, should be taken as financial advice.

And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, alone
Dragged down by the stone.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The yen broke through 105 per dollar to hit a 3- year high on Wednesday, battering Tokyo exporters, as investors bet a Japanese business survey would show further improvement in the economy.

Oil rose more than 30 cents a barrel after an explosion rocked one of the world's largest refineries. The blast at BP Plc's Texas refinery and chemical plant also saw gasoline jump to a record high.

Indeed it was the gasoline refinery unit that blew. It was shut down earlier today. which helped spark the rally in gasoline futures today.

Either they are pushing these refineries too hard, or someone blew it. If its the latter, will we ever hear about it?

I would feel much more comfortable if gold would crack $424 and stay above it.

DJ Japan MOF Official: Will Act Vs Rapid Forex Moves -2-

... The official was speaking after the dollar plunged to a four-year low of Y104.52 earlier Wednesday.

While refraining from commenting directly on foreign exchange levels or the earlier tumble in the dollar, the official said he has heard "people in the market" saying the drop came amid speculative selling on the last day of Japan's fiscal year.

"According to those in the market, there seems to have been speculation that authorities would stop defending the dollar after the Tokyo retail fixing and that speculators took advantage of that," the official said, on condition of anonymity.

But "of course we have no particular comment," on such speculation, the official added.

Market players say they saw very little or no sign of the MOF in the market Wednesday morning during the dollar's plunge, giving rise to speculation that Tokyo's 15-month campaign to weaken the yen - which involved an unprecedented Y30 trillion and more - is drawing to a close.

Still, repeated comments from MOF officials that it will act against rapid or excessive movements would still leave the door open to the possibility of more intervention if the yen rises too far too fast, in a way which would harm the economy.

"Foreign exchange should move stably in reflection of fundamentals," the official said.
