Should be a good read Dozer, with Machinehead having a bird's eye view while there. Jim Rogers wasn't impressed with his drive through Japan. The land of Protectionism at its finest. Korea as well. HEAVILY protected domestic markets.
Anthony caused pearls to be dissolved in wine to drink the health of Cleopatra; Sir Richard Whittington was as foolishly magnificent in an entertainment to King Henry V; and Sir Thomas Gresham drank a diamond, dissolved in wine, to the health of Queen Elizabeth, when she opened the Royal Exchange; but the breakfast of this roguish Dutchman was as splendid as either. He had an advantage, too, over his wasteful predecessors: their gems did not improve the taste or the wholesomeness of their wine, while his tulip was quite delicious with his red herring.here

Bonds are not rallying. Guess they're not buying the CPI numbers.

Either that or nobody's buying them period.

we gave japan hideous monetary & fiscal advice...

they returned the favor with a lesson in the art of "kleptocracy".

doesn't it take about 4-6 months for crude oil bought today to make it through the refinery to my local station as gasoline, hence the seeming disconnect?

those following HAL, this was this bit of news yesterday:
NASA trouble-shooter to probe Iraq contracts

what's interesting is that it's already a done deal that next round of contracts will be bid on - is this already priced into HAL?

Ahhhh. That's the fun part about all this. :)

Raw, unmitigated cognitive dissonance. What they say and what you experience are at complete odds.

How long before the general populace figures that out?

Could be forever, if they are the same people who drive in the left lane.

It's just one month. So far this year the petroleum based products category is up 7.8% on an annualized basis.
Besides, these numbers are sauteed, flambeed, and processed to the point where they are meaningless to any human being.

From yesterday's top to this morning lows, the opening pop has so far died, or at least hesitated, right on the 38% retracement.

Kwave: What do you make of the dow divergence? For the last week or so , as you know, the dow has outperformed the nasdog and the spx.
""Pretty bubbleheads preen daily on our financial networks, playing the shill to Wall Street and Washington in order to lure unsuspecting Americans into buying insanely overvalued stocks. The great market exchanges, once prudent arenas of investment where the engine of capitalism traded value for value, have become sham casinos staggering under decades of massive Fed created debt and lurching into oblivion on the greater fool theory. Yet our high level bureaucrats, led by Alan Greenspan, exhort all Americans to consume still more of their seed corn and seek still more fools." N. Hultberg
