they reveal it

Amen, I nominate that for "Quote of the day" :)

From Briefing:

The initial source of the pullback was credited to, according to traders, a large sell order by Smith Barney for S&P futures

So...then...the dip was caused by selling?

Imagine that.

in a normal market should be to the downside, but this is one whacky market so I have my eyes peeled for any signs of weirdness and inversion.

Tight stops. Will not tolerate much more nonsense to the upside.

Fear no more. Today's drop has been diagnosed:

""Earnings and guidance going forward have been much more positive than we had anticipated," said Michael O'Hare, a trader at Lehman Brothers. "But the market is being influenced by the summer doldrums. Volume is light. And there is a lot of complacency."

Just give the market a little more time to break out of its current trading range says Lehman Bros. trader Michael O'Hare.

played golf this a.m. when I came off the course I noticed while the broad mkt was up the sox was off a buck or so. That was all the hope one needed.
""Pretty bubbleheads preen daily on our financial networks, playing the shill to Wall Street and Washington in order to lure unsuspecting Americans into buying insanely overvalued stocks. The great market exchanges, once prudent arenas of investment where the engine of capitalism traded value for value, have become sham casinos staggering under decades of massive Fed created debt and lurching into oblivion on the greater fool theory. Yet our high level bureaucrats, led by Alan Greenspan, exhort all Americans to consume still more of their seed corn and seek still more fools." N. Hultberg

Oh-oh, Piss-on-me talking about "Going short for the next week might be the safe play".

Watch your asses as this is one guy who is always behind the curve.

Maria's lessons re. shorting the market last fall (or was it this spring?) led many to the slaughter.
