"What about you," he said, "you gonna dye yourself brown? Don’t exactly look like you spend all your time sunbathing." She wore loose black silks and black espadrilles. "I’m an exotic. I got a big straw hat for this, too. You, you just wanna look like a cheap-ass hood who’s up for what he can get, so the instant tan’s okay."

aussiebear Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 U.K. Economy Resumes Growth By Less Than Forecast Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K. economy resumed growth by less than economists forecast in the fourth quarter as service industries and manufacturing expanded enough to pull Britain out of its longest recession on record. Gross domestic product rose 0.1 percent from the third quarter, the Office for National Statistics said today in London. The median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey of 33 economists was for a 0.4 percent increase and the lowest prediction was for a result of 0.2 percent.
aussiebear Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 German Business Confidence Rises to 18-Month High Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- German business confidence rose more than economists forecast to an 18-month high in January as the global economic recovery boosted exports. The Ifo institute in Munich said its business climate index, based on a survey of 7,000 executives, increased to 95.8 from 94.6 in December. That’s the highest since July 2008. Economists expected a gain to 95.1, according to the median of 41 forecasts in a Bloomberg News survey. Bank of China Ltd. has stopped extending new corporate loans in the Shanghai area, except for clients who have repaid earlier borrowings, said a person familiar with the matter who declined to be identified. China Construction Bank Corp.’s branch in the city has been told to screen applications for personal loans and mortgages more carefully and to stop new lending once a monthly quota is met, another person said.
aussiebear Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 Hong Kong’s Exports Climb 9.2% on Global Recovery Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong’s exports climbed for a second month in December as global demand began to recover. Overseas shipments gained 9.2 percent from a year earlier to HK$224.8 billion ($28.9 billion), the government said today on its Web site, after climbing 1.3 percent in November. The median forecast of 11 economists in a Bloomberg News survey was for a 12 percent increase. World trade will expand 4.3 percent in 2010 as part of a “weak” economic recovery after contracting 14.4 percent in 2009 because of the international slump, the World Bank said in a report last week. In Asia, Taiwan’s exports rose by the most in 14 years in December and China’s overseas shipments jumped 17.7 percent, figures boosted by low year-earlier comparisons.
