Most comp store sales coming better than expected.

Happy days are here again.

a lot of the smaller, especially teen oriented, ones seem to have done better. WalMart beat by a penny due to Sam's, but WalMart stores were below expectations. TGT lowered their target from the usual 4-6% to 0-2%, then "beat" with 3.8%. Now if the stock had taken a bigger hit when they cut their growth forecast by 50%+, maybe there'd be reason for it to go up on this number, but considering it's still close to the highs it shouldn't really be anything to celebrate. But of course I'm expecting it will at least open higher.

Being a Libertarian at heart, I have to partially agree with Doc. Bush and his merry gang of neocons must go. That is the first thing that must happen. The alternatives to either Kerry or Bush have zero hope at this moment in time. Therefore the only alternative to Bush is Kerry. I'm personally praying for a Kerry win and a Republican House and Senate which might create enough gridlock to at least slow down the destruction of America. That gives us 4 years to try and come up with a viable alternative to the "we're all the same - two party system". Both the Republicans and the Democrats will destroy this country in their own way by creating a more monsterous federal government. The only solution to saving this country is a very significant reduction in government beginning at the federal level. If we fail that test we can all kiss our respectives arses good-bye.

I still think Al will not raise rates before the election and by the time the election has come and gone, regardless of the outcome, the true state of the American economy will be fully evident and IMO there is a better than even chance of a rate cut in Q1 2005. It won't help of course at that stage, but it will be all Al can offer.

I think right now the dollar and oil are tied at the hip. Oil goes up, more dollars are needed to buy oil. The side effect might be less dollars available to buy US debt.

I still feel a looming event horizon and I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't time for Mother Nature to chime in. Surprise meteorite from the South? Massive quake (SoCal is due and predicted in September)? Maybe Jellystone will pop her cork?

Something's out there and I can't really find a truly ripe human source, many candidates but nothing really on the boil.

Good Morning Crew- Window at the Bell for 50 minutes and Da Chairthrower is in Da House. That smirking Simian has done MORE to harm the Worlds view of America than any President-he is a threat not just to the American people but the people of the World!

The journalist who cobbled this hopeful fantasy together obviously has a different perspective than I do.

Jobless Claims Drop in Sign of Recovery

By JEANNINE AVERSA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The number of new people signing up for unemployment benefits dropped last week, a hopeful sign for the job market recovery.

As my chart shows, this quote is not true since the trend has been exactly flat since the beginning of the year.

Even so, the long-term trend in claims shows improvement.

It's neither up nor down. Neither hopeful nor hopeless. Just neutral.

Doc first things first nader is not a Libertarian

Of course not. I didn't say he was. I just said I admired him. He's a populist who tells the truth. I said that voting Libertarian, or for Nader, is a wasted vote. Unless you don't care about living under a dictatorship.

MOSCOW (AP) -- Russia's Justice Ministry said Thursday that it had revoked permission granted by bailiffs for the beleaguered oil giant Yukos to use previously frozen funds to pay for day-to-day operations, the Interfax news agency reported.

"When the 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth' launched its campaign against John Kerry 10 days ago, leadership and guidance were provided by Republican activists and presidential friends from Texas -- notably Houston attorney John E. O'Neill and corporate media consultant Merrie Spaeth.

"On closer inspection, the ostensibly nonpartisan 'Swift Boat Vets' seem to have another pair of significant sponsors with deep and long-standing Republican connections in Missouri. Both are officers of Gannon International, a St. Louis conglomerate that does lots of overseas business in, of all places, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

John O'Neill has been John Kerry's punching bag for over 30 years. The guy is a dope and may prove a very useful antagonist to Kerry.

Car sales just keep getting better and better. That's why incentives keep getting bigger and bigger. Makes sense to me. I've noticed the Japanese are starting to increase their incentives, though to levels far smaller than the US cos., which is allowing them to swallow market share in giant gulps.

The offer through September 7 provides "cash allowances of up to 5,000 dollars on 2004 model cars and up to 6,000 dollars on 2004 model trucks," a category that includes sport utility vehicles. .......

Some anal cysts say the impact of the incentives has worn off, and that sales of some big SUVs are being dented by rising fuel costs. Uh, duhhhh.

GM lowers the bar.
