Charmin
How many times lately have I seen or heard of sluggish sales: "6:13AM OfficeMax holiday sales sluggish; lowers guidance (OMX) 30.40: Company reported that its retail sales and gross margins during the 2004 Thanksgiving-to-Christmas holiday season have been weaker than expected. Fourth-quarter 2004 comparable retail sales are now expected to be nearly flat compared to its pro-forma retail sales during the fourth quarter of 2003. As a result, the company's 2004 operating income is expected to be less than previously forecasted." I'll bet even ebay sales are sluggish
Lock Limit Down
"Switzerland's largest bank, UBS, said Tuesday that it might face legal action from the Securities and Exchange Commission over work it did for HealthSouth, the hospital operator accused of nearly $3 billion in accounting fraud."...more Might face legal action? WTF? $3 billion, not to worry, don't give it a second's thought. Bad accounting, no big deal happens alllllllll the time. DrStool
Good Morning! An eerie quiet prevails this morning, as everyone waits to see where and when the other shoe will drop, or drop kick. The Wod's new high wasn't matched by the Nads or the Spits, a lack of uniformity that's not conducive to an extension of a marketwide rally. I think the move yesterday was a one shot deal related to big $12 billion Snow dropped on the market. It's impact should be used up today. Tomorrow, the pig flies on an empty tank. Things are all quiet on the bond front. Yields are stuck at 4.17. 5 hr and 3 day cycle indications are mixed. There's a 3 day cycle downside cmap of 4.16. Buck is wildly flopping around on the deck between 81.75 and 82.10. 5 hr cycle indicators are down, but due for a low this hour. The 24 hour cycle isn't clear. It could be in a swup. 3 day cycle indicators are on the sell side, but the initial look appears to be a sideways down phase. We'll have to wait and see how this plays. If it stays flat, Buck should rally a bit on the next up phase. Stay up to date with short term, intermediate, and long term cycle signals and targets on stocks, gold, and bond yields, along with the doings of the Fed and Treasury, in the Anals of Stock Proctology. Charmin
Copper? 8:57AM Gold, Oil, and Dollar Summary : The Dollar is little changed against the Euro (1.3376 from 1.3371) and slightly lower versus the Yen (104.05 from 104.33) this morning. News from Japan stating its export growth accelerated last month even as the Yen staged a strong rally eased concerns about waning growth. Gold (443.50 +0.60) is edging higher as the Dollar is slightly lower. Copper (144.90 +0.65) makes headlines as it approaches its 16-year highs on reports of a global inventory slump while China, the largest copper consumer, boosted its copper imports by 48% in November...Crude (45.66 -0.10) is trading slightly lower ahead of today's US weekly inventory data due at 10:30am EST. It is speculated to show a decrease of 1.1 million barrels in distillate (heating oil and diesel) stockpiles. Crude supply is expected to have declined by 800,000 barrels.
