From The Dead Letter Department

Recommended Posts

From today's New York Post:

A man who died in 1997 has received a phone bill - at the Massachusetts cemetery where he is buried.

Wayne Bloomquist, superintendent of the Hillside Cemetery in Auburn, says he was stunned to see the bill demanding that the late David Towles pay Sprint 12 cents for a call he supposedly made on February 16, five years after his death.

"Our clients here don't usually get mail," he said.

Hey, at least Sprint knew where to mail the bill!

And wouldn't it be interesting if they subsequently received a check for that amount signed by DT? Wonder what they would do with it. Could, in fact, be the basis for a most interesting Tales From The Crypt episode!

You all have a safe, sane (translation - don't obsess about the u-no-what too much) and enjoyable weekend and I'll see ya on Monday! :)

OK, here's one . . .

Thought I'd try a tiny scalp on the SPX. Placed an order for 850 Apr Putz (-SPXPJ) with Fido (I know, I know, shouldn't even be there but that's a problem for another day). Limit order placed at 11:27 for 1 contract @ $33. At 11:31, they showed it filled. Saw the confirmation on the web site. At 11:32, the order changed from filled to open. The day's low posted price changed from 33 to 34.2. Use Medved, so have the "raw data" which shows the fill at 11:31, but a -1 fill at 11:32.

Called Fido. They said that the exchange can just cancel the fill despite it showing up as confirmed on the website. So I asked, "Can I back out of trades that don't go my way like that?" No doubt you can guess the answer.

On this a.m.'s thread, Sam Adams wrote:

Are you referring to downward pressure on gold, i.e. this will be good for gold?

And while I was writing this, sheesh, what happened??????? My entire screen went red except for my golds. Uh, I mean my gold STOCKS, obviously gold is not red, if you know what I mean. Unless it's Black Hills gold which is pink and green.

Tried to post this earlier but something happened. It finally posted but was the last post on the thread.

Predict USD will go to .50 within months. I think EEC has orchestrated agreements to switch to Euro when US invades. This may also take the pressure off gold since the Euro is gold friendly. Currenly flat on CHF but will go long mid/late next week. The real argument is whose currency we use, not who drops the bombs. I think this was the betrayal Phat and Chasmo were writing about.

Short term USD will tool the Euro badly but not for long. Medium term Euro will throw Uncle Buck out the window. Long term Gold will crucify them both. JMNSHO

See LOB for more detailed discussion. (I hope it worked when I last posted there. If not will post again. Having a lot of problems.)

I'm not second-guessing against the main trend. If I get 100% stopped out I'll do so at a nice gain so I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Pile,

I thought yous aid last night you got stopped out and just in time for your vacation. Did you get back in?

I jumped the gun on my post and forgot to edit it (sorry, my fault)

yup, a couple were executed (COX, MOLX, ALTR) and I was assuming the rest did but they didn't.

Still have 16 out of 20

I'm taking it a day at a time and a stop at a time.

Now I have to bring my laptop with me on vacation - crap!

Tchaikofsky---

Had a similar experience at Schwab with a cover of a short. They confirmed the trade on Street Pro but backed

out of it later that day. I complained, was told they would honor it because the staff saw it on the screen also

but a trader later called and said the floor had three days to back out of any trades and too bad for me....meanwhile,

short squeeze ensued and I was caught with a losing position. Was told three day trial only applied to floor

traders.....
