Guest Posted June 4, 2004 Report Share Posted June 4, 2004 FOX is reporting that our govt cannot account for over 7500 shoulder armed missiles, better known as RPGs. Now this is familiar to me as something similar happened in the mid 90's when we sold arms to Saudi Arabia when we were building and supplying their new Army/Airforce and suddenly a whole bunch of RPGs that were shipped just didn't arrive at their destination. I believe this was written off as "an accounting error." But I always wondered who in SA actually had those weapons. Nobody solved the issue. Today, we might have some good guesses. Oh, well!!!!! All they deny as a hoax is that "the meteorite hit near Olympia." That part is all that was a hoax. The meteorite and its boom and intense light was not denied. So much for our good media reporting. In data released tonight, M3 was down 64 billion(NSA) the week ended 5/24. There were some other interesting tidbits as well. The banking data comes out tomorrow. I'll review all of it Saturday morning in your Fed Releases Review. Contrary to popular belief, the problem is not a ballooning money supply. It is the incipient contraction of the credit bubble. It's kind of embarassing that some gold bulls, like myself, have latched onto a one week rise in the money supply a few weeks ago to state that the money supply is exploding. That rise was only the tail end of the March-April mini-housing boom and end of tax refunds. Those events are fading like tail lights in the night. The most puzzling thing to me is - how can the Fed talk about raising rates when signs of economic contraction will soon appear? More importantly - how will the markets react? The answer may be that interest rates will rise at the same time the Fed tries to pump up the monetary base. However, unlike the theme of the Safehaven story mentioned earlier, the clash of inflation and deflation may be more like the clash of a fly swatter on a rock - with the economy the mosquito caught between.
