Jimi
The real head scratcher today was Krugman. You really have to read it and consider the levels of irony, or something, in expressing skepticism in efficacy of monetary policy a few short days after he called for the Fed to monetize $2 trillion. http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/1...onetary-policy/ Fantastic catch, Jorma. Trader Joe
As the market rises, here is what is happening on Main Street: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/15/us/15pol...rss&emc=rss That's fun to read... Lester Holt was interviewing and old black blues player on last night's news (damned if can remember his name, but he was good) The guy was like 94 years old and still going strong...but it was clear that this MF'er had seen it all and then some, plus 2 At one point, near the end of the interview Lester says something along the lines of, Lester: "so with the hard times going on in America today would you say that things are about as bad as they can get" Blues Guy: (looks up with a twinkle in his old 94 year-old eyes) "Nah man, you ain't seen nothin' yet"

Speakeasy
Masters Of War Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead
Jimbo
ITS THE CAPITAL STUPID America is consuming its productive capital - its muscle - to add fat to fall street As its productive capital shrinks so do the good high paying jobs which that capital supported. You cant make jobs out of thin air (well you can if you borrow and spend - but we are seeing where that is going) The consumer is tapped out Soon the Government sponsored consumerism will be tapped out as well. Any increase in consumer spending must come from default on debt payments or from government transfer payments - indeed america is having quite a large "Default Stimulus" which has replaced the Credit card/heloc/mortage stimulus - this is why consumption has not collapsed even more - the debt default/government defecit are acting as giant shock absorbers. And then the government will join the consumers at the "default" setting. Trasheries are becoming "sub prime"
