potatohead
Calculate This! Discussion of Fed Potential Losses Is Beside The Pointhttp://wp.me/p2r1d8-BrQ Very good article. you are assuming that all the gold is in the custody and control of the Federal Reserve or US Treasury. Another question would be if any of that gold has been leased out and is able to be recovered if the lease is called in. As far as I know the Fed does not breakout the line item of gold held versus gold leased out.

Jetlag
"Negative interest rates idea floated by Bank's Paul Tucker" "Some of the proposals we heard today, such as moving to negative interest rates, are radical; others are not. They all warrant careful consideration," he said in a statement after the hearing. In 2009, the Swedish central bank, the Riksbank, surprised many when it set a rate of -0.25%. The move below zero for the first time was seen as largely symbolic. Denmark cut its deposit rate below zero in July last year, and in December, the Swiss bank Credit Suisse imposed negative rates on bank deposits to tame demand for the Swiss franc. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21589128
