machinehead
Wow ... beautiful and hard-hitting chart, phat. If that gets posted in enough places, it could bring down the system. Love the little Stool figure in the lower right corner. Like those Renaissance painting crowd scenes where there's always a little guy in the corner taking a dump. Pere Ubu
Consumer demand softening in U.S., BTM says by Rex Nutting @ MarketProp WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- U.S. retailers saw a "fundamental softening in consumer demand" over the past three weeks, according to Mike Niemira, economist at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. The BTM-UBS weekly chain store index fell 0.4 percent last week, the third straight week-over-week decline. The index improved to a 4.4 percent year-over-year increase "on an easier comparision" with last September's sales, Niemira said. For all of September, Niemira lowered his forecast of same-store sales to about 3.5 percent from an earlier range of 3.5 percent to 4 percent. Retailers had no explanation for the three-week decline in sales, but suggested that it may be a "spending pause" after very strong sales in August.
