Some energy related blow ups today.

Some consumers in the Northeast US may not be getting heating oil at the price they expected this winter:

Star Gas, No.1 Heating Oil Firm, May Seek Bankruptcy (Update6)

Oct. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Star Gas Partners LP, owner of the biggest U.S. heating-oil distributor, said it may seek bankruptcy protection in part because it's unable to recoup surging fuel prices. The partnership's units fell 80 percent.

The company's Petro home heating-oil business, which serves 524,000 homes and businesses in the U.S. Northeast, is also losing customers because of delays in centralizing its dispatch system, Star Gas said in a press release. Lower-than-expected earnings may put Star Gas in violation of terms on a loan needed to keep fuel flowing to customers this winter, the company said.

Heating oil distributors often pay up front for supplies and wait weeks or months to collect the full amount from customers, so higher prices force them to finance larger sums, according to Bob Greenes, a consultant for the 150-member New York Oil Heating Association.

``What's affecting Petro is affecting everybody in the heating oil business,'' Greenes said in a telephone interview.

Heating oil futures have climbed 27 percent since Sept. 1 and 56 percent since the start of the year, touching $1.5555 today on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest since the contract began trading in 1978. ``It's going to get ugly,'' said James Cordier, head trader at Liberty Trading Group, a futures brokerage based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Gas wars:

Japan in tussle with China over gas rights

By Michiyo Nakamoto and David Pilling in Tokyo

Published: October 18 2004 12:34 | Last updated: October 18 2004 12:34

Japan is seeking emergency talks with China to discuss reports that Beijing has stepped up gas exploration efforts in the East China Sea in waters claimed by Tokyo as part of its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Hiroyuki Hosoda, chief cabinet secretary, said on Monday: ?If China has designated several areas for gas development in waters outside its own, we will seek termination of the projects through diplomatic channels.?

His statement came after weekend comments by Shoichi Nakagawa, Japan?s trade minister, that China had granted exploration rights to several companies.

China and Japan have never agreed on the limits of their respective EEZs, with Japan saying a line should be drawn equidistant between the two countries and Beijing basing its claim on the extent of its continental shelf.

The issue has become more urgent as China steps up its search for energy to feed its hungry economy. Japan, which depends on imports for virtually all its energy needs, has found itself in increasing competition with China, most recently over the route of a proposed oil pipeline from Siberia in Russia.

Defence anal cysts in Tokyo said the dispute also involved control of sea lanes vital for Japanese exports and imports. One military anal cyst close to the government spoke of China ?invading our exclusive economic zone.?

Looks like Jeb has been doing his magic in Florida once again. Four years ago these criminals stole a US election and didn't go to prison, so why worry this time around?

The same can be said of 9/11, Anthrax Attacks, False Intelligence to justify invading a sovereign nation and War Crimes. See anybody in prison for any of these heinous acts?

Obviously these people are unstoppable - and rule the world however they choose.

Who is going to stop them?

Long lines plague first day of casting votes in Palm Beach County

The lines were long. Democrats and Republicans were stuck standing together for hours, some outside in the sun. Tempers grew short.

It was a bad time for some voters in Palm Beach County on Monday, a historic day when Floridians for the first time could go to the polls early to cast their vote for president.

Some polling locations opened late, voters said, and others reported waiting as long as three hours before seeing a ballot. They complained that there weren't enough poll workers or voting machines. Another complaint: Too few laptop computers for clerks to immediately verify eligibility.

"So, in other words, it's a fiasco," said voter Arnold Glick. He wanted to vote on Monday at the Southwest Regional Public Library west of Boca Raton because he is having spinal surgery this week and isn't likely to be able to walk by Election Day.

But Supervisor of Elections Theresa LePore said it was equally tough for county election clerks, who are dealing with the new early voting process while being inundated by voters who have been whipped into a frenzy by the election's high political stakes.

"I've been a supervisor for 33 years and this is the worst I've ever seen it," said LePore, who had poll workers threatening to quit Monday because of rude and nasty constituents. "We are going to be doing this for two weeks. But everyone had to show up on the first day, and then complained because they had to stand in line."

Glitches cause long lines at early voting sites in Broward

A computer glitch that disconnected poll workers from crucial ballot information shut down nine of Broward County's 14 early voting sites on Monday, leaving some irate voters waiting in lines for as long as two hours and raising the specter of another 2000 election embarrassment for South Florida.

With no contingency plan in place, election officials had to scramble to get the poll workers the information they needed to process thousands of voters trying to take advantage of the state's first early voting experiment.

Divide and conquer continued...students made to feel less than deserving of vaccine in favor of seniors. Will we find ourselves at the mercy of Dear Leader to choose who will live and who will die one day? Is this merely a trial run?

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 - As the flu crisis stretched into its third week, complaints are building across the country that health officials are failing to distribute the remaining vaccine supply quickly or equitably.

At Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on Monday, any student who wanted to be vaccinated could obtain a shot, no questions asked. The university Web site, www.lsu.edu, did not mention any restrictions, and a staff member at the clinic, when asked whether anyone could receive a shot, said, "Yeah, you can just walk in."

Dr. Timothy Honigman, medical chief of staff at the student health center, said students who wanted injections were given a fact sheet saying only students at the highest risk should receive the shots. But no one asks students who request vaccine whether they qualify.

"We're trying to do the best we can following the guidelines of the C.D.C., yet not totally turning our back on our students, for whom we are here," Dr. Honigman said, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A spokesman for the Louisiana Health and Hospitals Department, Bob Johannessen, said several state health officials had called the university to complain about the distribution policy. Mr. Johannessen said health care providers had a moral obligation to ensure - through direct questions and, if necessary, medical records - that people who asked for flu shots were at high risk.

"To vaccinate others,'' he said, "is not responsible and is the wrong thing to do."

"It's a 'loaves and fishes' problem," a top health official said. "It would take a miracle to get supply to everyone who needs it."

The absentee ballots sent out were also invalid. Instead of two pages, they were sent with two first pages. Of course the problems reported were worst in the two most heavily Democratic counties, Palm Beach and Broward. I agree, Plunger, the Repugnicant state government has guaranteed once again that the election will be thrown to Bush.

Since the Ministry Of Information has applied the cone of silence on the Ministry Of Health, we no longer need to concern ourselves with the risk of those pesky proclamations of Bird Flu or Mad Cow discoveries in our nation's food supply.

All of these blatant attempts to steal the election may just backfire, and motivate Democrats and undecideds who might have chosen to stay home to get out and vote in protest....in which case Jeb may just have to resort to shooting them.

Jeb is much smarter than George. He speaks fluent Spanish. (His wife is Hispanic.) And he plays the caring, sensitive, sympathetic guy role to the hilt. That makes him even more dangerous as a politician. He is the next in line in the dynasty after George II.

We should all be afraid. Be very afraid.

They had thousands of lawyers watching the polls yesterday. The one I saw interviewed on TV, a hard bitten middle aged guy was so distraught about what he saw, he was almost in tears.

They know there is not a damn thing they can do about this. The Fascists control the state election machinery, and they control the Federal courts, where this will all wind up, and the lawyers, better than anyone, know it.

Face it, it's over. Democracy in the US is dead. Long live the Republic. The Republic is dead.

why don't we just forget about elections and have a coronation

Doc, I think we have to try. If we force it to go through the system, back up to the supremes, then it will be clear to the world, and finally to Americans that this is not a democracy. at least with it out in the open there is a chance for civil war, a citizen's revolution. something. Florida supremes are on the left, so we would be in a court story identical to 2000. we have to try.

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of an important person which went almost unnoticed last week.

Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in, and then the trouble started.
