Certainly a falling dollar can precipitate a crash. I believe that one of the causes of the crash in 87 (after a huge runup) was James Baker saying some minor thing about the dollar being too strong. Everyone ran for the exits in a hurry. Then he backed off and the market recovered.

One of the causes of the big crash of 29 (what sent it over the cliff) was the BOE raising rates above the Fed rates when the Fed could NOT raise it's own because of the market already going down. This caused money to come out of the US and started the nosedive phase.

So yes monetary factors are important. This is why the current time is extremely critical. If the dollar tanks while the market is tanking, would not any foreign investor seriously consider bailing out and putting their money to work elsewhere?

Much like Soros attacking the pound, when the time is right everyone will jump on board (or out the exits). Could be anytime and we have no idea how low it could go. This is why Al is managing the decline, to prevent panic selling which would be very damaging to everyone. Just letting the air out as slowly as possible.

AssMass-

Cmaps and cycle work very well with Uncle Buck. They called the top almost to the day and they have been excellent on the downtrend as well. So I disagree that nobody knows how low it will go. It's actually a pretty simple arithmetic exercise.
