DrStool
It's very weird to watch the first hour and 15 minutes of New York trading and it's 5:45 PM here. Interestingly, Greeks have a later day. They start later and end later. You get up whenever, Lunch is 3:30 - 4 PM. I went to get a souvlaki sandwich (€2.20) at 3:45 PM. Upscale bar around the corner was busy. Dinner is around 9-10 PM. Bedtime 1-2 AM. In this neighborhood, Kolonaki, people are well to do. But we saw some amazing urban devastation on the way into town. Empty shell buildings covered with graffiti everywhere Athens is a sprawling, modern city, lacking the charm of other European cities I have visited. However, the direct views of the Acropolis and surrounding mountains from our apartment are gorgeous. Looking forward to exploring the sights. DrStool
Naturally because we're in Greece we went to the sushi bar up the block for dinner. Went at 8:00PM. It was half full. By 9:00 when we left, the place was packed with young people. I had a 16 piece sushi sampler. Cost: €9.00 Tonight we got 5 bags of groceries that would have cost about $100 at home, for €51 Either the Greeks aren't making any money (probable) or in the US we're getting ripped off (also probable).
