Already taken out Friday's SPU high. See if they gun it for another 6 SPU pts to take out the recent SPU high for the move.

Looks like they might do that tonight.

Boy has betting on the dollar pullback been a losing trade for a long time now.

Re taser: The mother seems to have been in mortal danger in this case.

The problem with the whole taser thing is that they are representing it as being something much safer than a gun, so some police officers feel free to use it when they are mad at an alleged perp (some stories here of people being tased for no reason), and use it multiple times. Some people studying it think that if you get jolted at a certain point in the heart's cycle, it stops the heart. The company ought to have to be more up front about the very real dangers of this thing, and police need to be trained to understand that they are potentially using deadly force when they use it. I just have a big problem with the company constantly dismissing the incidents of death or heart attacks as being coincidence or caused by other factors.

I know where your coming from and I agree with a lot of it. Tasers have a place in so much as they are a 'safer' alternative to just shooting the perp as would have been done in days of yore.

Marketing is marketing, it started with 'covers in one coat' from some cave paint product, I think, or maybe 'me love you long time', I'd have to look it up. I haven't followed TASR's marketing so I don't know what they promise, but I think people have enough respect for them that they don't shoot them off frivolously, and when they do, the adverse side-effect risks are a small part of the calculus.

But safer than a gun? For sure.

Drano's point is well taken. If the reptile brain in most cops is activated, having an alternative to popping a cap into the Oafender encourages them to do violence.

As to the safety of a tasr. I'll repeat a confession I read on the net, so it must be true.

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my

interest.

The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something

extra for my wife, Julie.

What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket(purse- sized) tazer.

The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term

adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to

safety.

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home.

I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button.

Nothing! I was disappointed.

I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal

surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and

forth between the prongs.

AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face

of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't

be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little

soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to

try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and

thought better of it.

She is such a sweet cat.

But if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a

mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised.

Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses

perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and tazer

in another.

The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your

assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major

loss of bodily control, a three-second burst would purportedly make your

assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of

water.

Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less

than 3/4 inch in circumference.

Pretty cute, really, and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries)

thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best . . .

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as

to say, 'Don't do it, Dip ****,' reasoning that a one second

burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.

I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the

prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . .

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . . WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the

recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again.

I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my

eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles

nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest

position, and tingling in my legs.

The cat was making meowing sounds I had

never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace,

obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body

flopping all over the living room.

Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a tazer, one note of

caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself!

You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a

violent thrashing about on the floor.

A three second burst would be considered conservative.

IT HURT LIKE HELL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that

point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the

damage.

My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace, the recliner was

upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was, my triceps,

right thigh and both nipples were still twitching my face felt like it had been

shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.

I had no control over the drooling.

Apparently I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of

smell was gone.

I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair.

I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their

safe return!

P.S. My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift, and now

regularly threatens me with it!

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!

Gold isn't up.

Its the American Peso that's down.

Gold is still well below the February high for most of the world.

Guess that shows which state is being mis-managed.

I was referring to the US mismanagement of the economy and the dollar.

Earlier this year here in Oz a man died during a Taser'ing.

According to the onboard computer chip thingy, the weapon was fired 28 times in quick succession.

The cops did a complete, thorough and impartial investigation of the matter with assistance of the company.

They decided that all that was needed was a little adjustment to the training course material with retraining of all officers (Training is done on overtime pay) and upgrades to the weapons to get the onboard camera option (At $1000 a pop for TASR but necessary so that next time "We'll be able to see what really happened.")

A 2009 Darwin Award Nominee...

Darwin says, "Double Darwin!"

(26 September 2009, Dinant, Belgium) Two bankrobbers attempting to make a sizeable withdrawal from an ATM machine died when they overestimated the quantity of dynamite needed for the explosion. Nobody else was in the building at the time of the attack. Robber One was rushed to hospital severely injured, and Robber Two was unexpectedly excavated from the debris twelve hours later.

Uncovering the second bungler's body was a surprise because investigators initially assumed that the accomplice had managed a getaway. Would-be robbers One and Two weren't exactly impoverished--their getaway car was a BMW.

SPU in station-keeping mode right now. I guess we have to wait for the afternoon session in Japan to see if there is a further move higher and then again the requisite hour (+/-) or so after the London cash market opens. My wild guess is that the dollar will be further tanked when the Bank of England branch of Goldman Sachs takes charge of world wide trading as the earth rotates.

I keep wondering how far the European sheep are gonna let Big Government ram the poker up their ass before they finally cry out...

Simply Amazing....

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091114/D9BVD87G5.html

When the plan takes effect in 2012, new car prices will drop as much as 25 percent with the abolition of a purchase tax and the road tax, which now totals more than euro600 ($900) per year for a mid-sized car.

Instead, an average passenger car will pay euro0.03 per 1 kilometer ($0.07 per mile), with higher charges levied during rush hour and for traveling on congested roads. Trucks, commercial vehicles and bigger cars emitting more carbon dioxide will be assessed at a higher rate, the Transport Ministry said.

The GPS devices installed in cars will track the time, hour and place each car moves and send the data to a billing agency.

Of course such data will be safe...and never ever used for any other purpose.

The ministry said, however, the information collected by GPS would be "legally and technically protected," and the data would not be accessible to the government for other purposes. "The privacy of road users is protected," it said.

Wonder how long it will be until they have surveillance cameras in all their houses to make sure they don't use too much toilet paper when they wipe their ass...
