Stupid math question

 

If new jobs created equal 110,000 and new unemployment claims equal 317,000, how many annualized jobs are being created? The answer -2,484,000.

110,000 just represents more jobs gained than lost during the period. It is a net figure.

I don't think that those net jobs numbers include new unemployment claims.

They aren't exactly comparable. For one thing the employment claims only represent one weeks worth of data while the jobs number is for a whole month. The claims data is much more solid in that they represent hard numbers of actual claims. The payroll data a survey of companies that indicate how many they have hired and fired during the month and that's why the revisions are sometimes so large.
