Rough day today. My mom, who had been recovering nicely from her pelvic fracture in April has now broken her hip. I was at the hospital this evening. I am faced with the decision of putting her through surgery, with a significant risk of death, so that she can at least have pain relief and the ability to be easily transferred in a wheel chair, or no surgery and lying in bed on morphine waiting to die.

She's been through lots of surgeries in her life and has always bounced back. She's a feisty one. This will be her toughest fight. If the medical staff agrees, she's going to go for the surgery. With her advancing Alzheimers she can't tell me, but I'm sure that's what she wants. If she dies, she'll go down fighting. Just as she has lived. She will rage against the dying of the light.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
