However, I think the Fed will follow the BOE's move this morning and move to raise rates 0.25%. Until next week, the Fed may be a little tight with money - and I don't think the market will gan much traction on the upside. The Fed still expects things to pick up: Despite a lull in economic growth and anxiety about the effect of high oil prices on spending, the Federal Reserve is expected to continue its strategy of gradually raising interest rates when policy makers meet next Tuesday. A raft of indicators suggest that economic growth slowed sharply last quarter, particularly in June, and may continue to be sluggish for a few more months. But Fed officials and many outside economists predict that the lull will be temporary and that activity will pick up again by the fall." A lot of people have said that the Fed was behind the curve,'' said Lyle E. Gramley, a former Fed governor who is now a senior economic adviser at Schwab Soundview Capital Markets here. So if policy makers "chicken out at the first sign of weak numbers, that could end up bothering the bond markets so much that it could be a negative for the economy.'' Some call that AWOL. The only hope this country has for salvation, and it is a slim one, is to throw out this cynical, corrupt, fascist crowd that already has stolen one election. After my WAG of 233,000 jobs yesterday, I feel like I've won the "Think Like a Sheeple" contest. As HB says, Al's quarter-point rate-hike buttock injection ("this will only feel like a mosquito bite") is virtually baked in the cake for next Tuesday, particularly after the Brits did a quarter today. The creaky old Anglo-American alliance among the central banksters goes back to the days of Benjamin Strong and Montagu Norman; their successors continue to plot and scheme together in smoke-filled rooms, much as the Prez and PM do more publicly. Al's rate hike is conventional enough and even overdue. The problem is all those aborted, miscarried and stillborn recessions of the last 30 years, which were all papered over as if they didn't happen. This grisly baggage from the past is all waiting to come tumbling noisily out of the closet at the slightest provocation, and another little mosquito-bite rate cut could well be it. The lesson is not that "rate cuts are wrong," but that "after living in a vivid debt-fueled economic hallucination for 30 years, eventually the LSD wears off." Sorry, Al. You blew it. Maybe the karma thing will work out better in the next life. Rolling little balls of dung will give you plenty of time to think about monetary policy ... Why should we believe them instead of the vets who say Kerry fought bravely? I'm not saying this site is unbiased either, but here's some info to consider if you haven't: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "When the 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth' launched its campaign against John Kerry 10 days ago, leadership and guidance were provided by Republican activists and presidential friends from Texas -- notably Houston attorney John E. O'Neill and corporate media consultant Merrie Spaeth. "On closer inspection, the ostensibly nonpartisan 'Swift Boat Vets' seem to have another pair of significant sponsors with deep and long-standing Republican connections in Missouri. Both are officers of Gannon International, a St. Louis conglomerate that does lots of overseas business in, of all places, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Thats what you call Vietnam Vets Organization ?Men who served with kerry. There are many Vietnam Vets Organizations out there. That particular one was formed for the purpose of discrediting Kerry. The lead nay-sayer debated Kerry on TV back in the protest days. He lost the debate and still holds a grudge. I have seen the debates and also heard him recently on TV. They are consummate liars spinning filth and spew to look like truth. Why would you believe anything that comes from house organs of the right wing? These guys are direct descendants of Goebbels. They don't believe in freedom. They don't believe in truth. They believe in mind control and manipulation. Fiction and lies are their primary tools. If you repeat a lie often enough, enough people will believe it for you to gain control. That's how the Nazis operated, and that's how organs of the NRA and the Republican right wing operate.
