ChicagoBear
Mish is from IL and he's been ranting about similar budget related issues lately. Keep your eye on NJ. Union butt licker Corzine (D) just got the boot.....and while I didn't vote for Christie ( R), I almost did. Christie will assume the post in Jan, and he has already begun to send the message that the NJEA Teachers Union as well as State unions are gonna get the smack-down. One of his initial threats is to immediately declare a "budget emergency" and start across the board layoffs union+admin. I would be shocked if NJ is the state that starts this revolt against taxes and the Unions and bloated administrative positions, but if he does succeed to any degree -- well, we'll just have to wait and see. there is a good read from John Mouldin about taxes: "Illinois has a projected deficit of 47% of its budget, second only to California with 49%." http://www.frontlinethoughts.com/printarti...sp?id=mwo111309 Illin'noise is forked! I sure hope someone like Christie emerges here. Unfortunately, you only get elected if you're connected to the right people. As if the property taxes were not bad enough, they jacked-up beer taxes 25% and wine & spirit taxes by 90% this past September. Broke, sober angry people are a bad combination. http://thinkingofdrinking.blogspot.com/200...n-illinois.html They'll bleed us all to death before their done! Chicago will be the next Detroit. capitall
Here's a poem someone wrote on Clearstation this weekend: From: Vibr8gKiwi Nov 13 2009 12:04PM Title: Poem for bears I wrote a poem for the bears: Bears, bears, you all suck. Everyday there is no selling, Are you blind or just stupid? Rainy days never end for you, Sell your last dollar and lose that too. Seriously, why are you so boneheaded? Underneath your fur is a bull, Call off your moronity, Kick yourself as you buy. It's one of those non-rhyming poems. -------------------------------- Makes me think.. Wow, I sure miss Beardrech. Now there was a fine poet! He sure had a way with words and some interesting stories.
MrHanky
Any businesses in LV hiring now? Casino's still laying off, furloughing, calling back? Casino's being built, planned? Still sucks and still some layoffs, but 90% of layoffs are now in construction. City Center is opening next month and is in the middle of hiring 12,000 people. But it will only net 6k real jobs since the construction workers on the project will get canned when it opens.80% of the job losses here were either construction or real estate related, going to be a long time until we see any kind of meaningful upswing. Other smaller casino projects and expansions are opening in the next 6 months, but nothing big for a while as far as I know.
vitrofan
there is a good read from John Mouldin about taxes: http://www.frontlinethoughts.com/printarti...sp?id=mwo111309 He looks for info about revenues from sales tax to check the health of economy (the same, Doc is doing with his tax graphs) Sometimes, people will put up with stuff for a lloonngg time before finally taking action. Look at the Russian people versus the Romanov Dynasty. That dragged on for what... 300 years or so before Lenin and Company finally forced the issue? Similar scenario in France. Your mileage may vary. What will be the final straw here? Who knows, but there will be one and I don't think we will have to wait another 300 years either. IMO. capitall
Bribery does pay, big time. Home Builder's Return on Lobbying CR Are we fools here to be paying attention to the markets? Instead we could go where the real money is-- starting some kind of business that could mooch off the taxpayer and the government-- and then paying lobbyists to make sure that we get all kinds of favors from the government that make or save us millions. What a helluva huge ROI! Probably even KW doesn't make that in the stock market. OTOH. he probably finds it a lot easier to look at himself in the mirror when he wakes up in the morning than these folks do.

Psycholopaths are only reflective in learning to get what they want.Like that show Dexter is BS, to serial killers there is no right or wrong, only me. It's true that that is the usual view of them in mental health although these folks are not ones to be aware. open, or expressive about their inner feelings, so what goes on inside of them is anyone's guess really. That being said, they don't show any evidence of having a conscience, so perhaps they do not. Then again, perhaps it's us taxpayers/voters who should have trouble looking ourselves in the mirror-- for allowing a lobbyist-dominated and bribery-dominated political system to go on and on-- a system that constantly issues engraved invitations to Special Interest Group thieves to rob us taxpayers and voters blind. Drano
Tell me, Cap. How exactly are WE taxpayers/voters responsible for "allowing" this to happen? There are and have been plenty of people screaming and ranting about what is going on, to no avail. Have you put Doc on "ignore"? When well-funded people with a national platform from which to speak (like a few congresspeople) are not able to change the course of the Titanic, how can you expect individual people to be able to change things? Please don't give me a bunch of platitudes about how we have to organize, blah blah blah. I spent an entire working day calling every one of my senators and all of the representatives from my state, not to mention congresspeople from other states, to register my adamant disapproval of the bailout. Every one of the staffers I talked to told me that virtually every call and email they got was in opposition to the bailout. Did that stop it from happening? The staffers are trained to be sympathetic with the callers, no matter what the moran on the phone says. Obviously, their training worked on you. The answer is for everyone to vote Libertarian, like I do.

I think the reason we won't be able to stop stimulus and bailouts is because our banana republic has adopted the Keynesian economic approach to spending through a financial mess instead of tightening budgets at the federal level. Some of us get to tighten our belts till it squeezes us to death, but since we are part of the unwashed masses throwing overboard a few vocal galley slaves is probably part of the process. Now that they know your opposed, they probably have you logged into their database. Some day everything you do from your IP address might become part of your government personal files.
