Strikingly calm here in Tampa Bay at this hour.

Waiting for Charlie.

We evacuated our low property and am situated in our

high ground abode. I am surprised that so many of my

lowland neighbors are staying put. I'm talking about folks who

live at the 4 ft. above high tide elevation. Power has been cut

to those A zone areas, and sewage lift stations have been

shut off. This could get very messy.

The gov. - Jeb - was on tv saying the expected damage to

be in the billions and that he was releasing emergency

funds - like it was his money!

If I don't check in tomorrow then ... well ... it's been

fun ...

First feeder should be here in an hour or so.

Something goofy going on with the reported public debt figures.

Here's the latest from the Treasony Dept.:

Current                Amount

  08/11/2004        $7,305,246,621,955.51

  Current

    Month

  08/10/2004        $7,308,629,683,239.34

  08/09/2004        $7,305,298,980,147.07

  08/06/2004        $7,304,927,057,132.91

  08/05/2004        $7,305,957,273,110.85

  08/04/2004        $7,300,833,399,186.25

  08/03/2004        $7,299,762,420,227.71

  08/02/2004        $7,303,319,122,668.55

    Prior

    Months

  07/30/2004        $7,316,567,571,232.89

Note that August is actually ahead $10B from July.

Hmmm.

There are four months where the gubmint traditionally experiences a surplus and August ain't one of 'em (they are; Jan, Apr, Jun, & Sept).

I suspect, in order to avoid an embarassing pre-election revisit of the debt ceiling that ol' Johnny-boy Snow is piling up invoices in the top right drawer of his desk.

Anybody out there with government contracts not getting paid?

Threadbare/Plunger.I would suspect that a goodly portion of the "top 1%" is composed of Ken Lay types and CEO's that are solely entrepreneurial at expanding their own bank balances at the expense of their shareholders and J6P.

These guys seem to be good for inventing more paper and the accountancy systems to make it all appear to have value.

Good lcuk Depends!

Truth be known, I am jealous as I actually like a good storm.

For the first 2 hours anyway.

Then it can get old.

Particularly if your neighbors roof lands in your kitchen.

remember, the "top 1%" is about 2.8 million people by population. (Not sure how you'd calculate that based on households.) I hate the Oiligarchy (sic, thanks Greg Palast) too, but there aren't 2.8 million Ken Lay's out there.

As to the trade deficit, the big leap is not entirely due to increased POO. Dropping commod prices for key US ag exports?

ISI does solid analytical work, but lately I have detected a slant towards the "Matrix"; this comment about the "rich uncle" is surprising if one considers what happens IF Uncle stops sending the checks. An early POR by a "mainstream" economist perhaps?

For many years I regarded Ed Hyman as a quality source of economic work. He still is. However, since he started managing mutual funds, I find a good deal of editorializing and cheerleading in his pieces.

Color him matrix-ized.

Bearbones,

Agree with you 100% about Ed, and like you, I'm also a fan of Louise Yamada.

Messy is an understatement.

TECO cutting power...2000 emergency repair crews dispatched.

Of course JEB would infer that it is his money....Control Freak!

Double Hunker-down mode Buddy!

God be with you and yours.
