aussiebear
It'll be a quiet one in IDS today with the US markets closed. The same can be said for our market so far with All Ords +0.2% and stocks within sectors mixed and muddled. IT is leading, +2.1% and at the other end Telecom is -0.5%. Miners are messing around with no real direction: BHP +0.2%, RIO -0.3% and the golds are similarly mixed. Oils are looking pretty good: Woodside +1.1% and Santos +0.3%. aussiebear
The action cranked up in the arvo with buyers appearing out of the woodwork. All Ords closed +0.6% with most sectors showing healthy gains. In the forefront was IT +2.3% followed by Energy +1.3%. The only loser was Healthcare -0.3% and Consumer Discretionary closed flat. In the miners, heavyweights BHP and RIO remained flattish but with the gold price zooming up, the golds attracted some interest. Newcrest closed +0.4% and Lihir +2.4% although Newmont bogged down, +0.5%. Oils had medium gains: Woodside +0.8% and Santos +1%. Not too many of the Asian bourses are open but those that are have small gains. Over to UK/Europe: http://quote.yahoo.com/m2?u
