IDS World Markets Tues 13th July 04

Recommended Posts

Earlier than usual because I have the parents dropping in later and I need to create a veneer of cleanliness and orderliness ...

t?s=^AORD

All Ords bouncing up and down in a tiny range trying to decide where it's going. The screen is showing a fair bit of red though so it may head south in the not too distant future.

Golds and oils milling around with both sectors mixed.

Asia heading south so far:

Sheer inertia today with All Ords doing a round trip and closing flat. Volume improved but only slightly. Still more red than green on the screen.

In the golds, Newcrest closed up but Lihir and Newmont dived into the red, -1.5%. Oils mixed.

Asia mostly in the green and Europe's up and away....

Not a lot going on here today.Philips electronics announced their Q2 results which were ok (says they).Market seems to have taken it upon itself to go inexplicably up when necessary!!! In the old days,an excuse was usually needed but now it is moved by----errrrr--990N and clubs with enough clout to ensure that all the options they wrote will expire worthless!

Interestingly, the European Court has just anulled the European Finance Ministers' decision to eff the Maastricht Treaty rules of deficit under 3%.

I have no idea if it means anything.Apparently,Italy already has deficit spending at 6.1% vs6.0% last quarter(supposed to be 3% max!).

Guest on Urocrapvision looking at the FTSE 100 says he's selling all rallies for the intermediate term.Showed the index to have broken out of a diamond pattern downwards--going sub4000 but didn't know when!
