But will it stay that way. The uptrend is intact on the ES 24 hour S&P futures, but so is a little downtrend. Today, they'll battle it out. The uptrend line to watch rises from 5037 to 5048 from 5 AM NY time to the NY close at 4 PM. If that holds it's bullish. If it breaks, the downside may or may not open for greater losses. The top of the downtrend channel drops from 5068 to 5057 over that time. Clear that, and more upside becomes likely. The two opposing channels create a triangle pattern with the tip at 8 PM ET, at 5053. That will act like a black hole, with the intense gravity pulling the price action toward the singularity. To avoid the event horizon by 2:30 turn time, the ES must break one of those two trendlines. A 5 day cycle low is ideally due this afternoon. If there's no breakdown early, and especially if the trendline holds, I'd look for explosive upside. The 5 day cycle projection on the ES 24 hour S&P futures is now around 5150. It looks like a better than even bet. At 5083, it's already more than 5050, right? The conventional measured move target of this rounded bottom base breakout is around 5200. I don't think we'll get there today, but I wouldn't be surprised if we did. On the other hand, if they stall at 5093, there would be more work to be done, with uncertainty creeping in to the mix. The ES 24 hour S&P futures broke out from a little bottom early yesterday, then pulled back to the scene of the crime late. At 5:40 AM New York Time, they were edging back upward to try again. It has the look of a mid stage rounded bottom. But of course, rounded bottoms can turn into something else if they don't break out. So don't assume. Because what looks like a rounding bottom may only make an and ass out of u and me. For now, the 5 day cycle projection of 5080 says that a partial breakout lies ahead, perhaps later today. On the other hand, hourly cycle oscillators are about where they and the market topped out on April 12. This could go either way. Or neither way. The action has created a triangle with the apex, aka the Dick Trickle Memorial point, at 5010 in the overnight session tonight. The downtrend line, and resistance, is at 5028 now, dropping to 5018 at the NY close. Clear that, and its off to the races. Or maybe that would only be 5050. Don't clear it, and more slop ahead. The uptrend line of the triangle is at 4990 as pf 6 AM ET, rising to 5000 at 4 PM. Break that and the first target would be 4975.
