Hypertiger
1. is a 13% chop in average house prices... 2. is a 25% chop in average house prices... The chop will happen eventually...The longer it takes the worse it will be... The Great Depression of the 1990's had a chop of 10%...Mortgage rates were 9% and dropped to 7%... Why did Japan's real estate market collapse? Rates dropped in search of volume... That was 10 years ago and to this day the volume has not shown up...Same thing will happen here...Japan has survived on life support from the US...When the US goes...there will be no life support for the US or Japan... Guest
sherlock_online, That was a sound byte from the movie "Full Metal Jacket" http://www.penceland.com/music/One%20Night...n%20Bangkok.m3u Trivia When Murray Head's "One Night In Bangkok" ("One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble...") peaked at #3 on the charts, an American promoter offered him $50,000 a week to tour as a rap artist. The offer was soon withdrawn - when the promoter realized that Murray Head, far from being a black American rapper, was a white man from Scotland. zensmoke
DJ Spot Gold To Average $415/Oz In 2004 - ANZ Bank Sydney, March 9 (Dow Jones) - The U.S. dollar is likely to continue weakening over the next few months, providing the scope for spot gold to edge higher from current levels and average US$415 a troy ounce in 2004, Australia's ANZ Bank said Tuesday. "The weakening of the (U.S. dollar) continues to be the major driver of the gold price with other factors such as geopolitical issues and central bank sales taking a back seat," the bank said in its latest resources market outlook. But while ANZ expects the American currency to fall to US$1.35 against the euro during the second quarter of 2004, it also believes the U.S. dollar's downward run is likely to end when, "as expected, U.S. interest rates rise mid- year." As the euro rose to its own record high, the price of gold hit a 15-year peak on Jan. 6 when it touched US$430.50/oz. At 0351 GMT, spot gold was quoted at US$402.63/oz. Among other key factors affecting the bullion market, apart from exchange rates, ANZ said the declining net speculative long position on Comex could be a negative sign. However, geopolitical instability and the deregulation of key gold markets, mainly in Asia, continue to underpin the price, it said. Furthermore, while the bank's report was written prior to the renewal of the European Central Bank Gold Agreement, it said failure to strike a new deal on official European sales would have put downward pressure on the yellow metal. Monday, the European Central Bank and 14 national central banks in Europe agreed to extend their original agreement for another five years. In the process, they raised the aggregate annual sales cap to 500 tons, from the current 400 tons. ANZ expects the price of gold to ease moderately in 2005, with an average price forecast for the year of US$405/oz. "There is short-term volatility in the market, but it shouldn't be too sharp," Mizoguchi said. Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Finance, he also said the MOF's foreign exchange stance is unchanged, suggesting Japan will continue intervening to prop up the dollar. As of 0056 GMT, the dollar was trading at Y111.30, up slightly after a rapid drop overnight in New York to Y111.15 from the Y112 level. -By Takashi Nakamichi, Dow Jones Newswires; 813-5255-2929; [email protected] -Edited by John Gibson Dow Jones Newswires
zensmoke
Oil Giant's Officials Knew of Gaps in Reserves in '02 By STEPHEN LABATON and JEFF GERTH Published: March 9, 2004 WASHINGTON, March 8 ? The new head of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and its current chief financial officer, as well as the chairman ousted last week, were advised of huge shortfalls in proven oil and natural gas reserves in 2002, two years before they were publicly disclosed, according to company memorandums and notes of executive discussions. But rather than disclose the problems to investors, senior executives in a July 2002 memorandum came up with ? and later carried out ? what the memorandum described as an "external storyline" and "investor relations script" that tried to "highlight major projects fueling growth," "stress the strength" of existing resources, and minimize the significance of reserves as a measure of growth. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/09/business...&partner=GOOGLE
zensmoke
Reliant Says Indictment Expected By KRISTEN HAYS AP Business Writer HOUSTON (AP)--Federal prosecutors plan to indict a unit of Reliant Resources Inc. and four current and former workers in what would be the first criminal case against a company accused of manipulating power prices during California's energy crisis, the company said Monday. Reliant said the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of California in San Francisco notified the company Friday of its intention to seek the indictments. The charges are based on allegations that the subsidiary, Reliant Energy Services, manipulated the prices for two days in June 2000 by curtailing Reliant's electricity generation. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/biz/cont...466513138998936

3Martinis
Iran demands entry to nuclear club Whatever the reasons that motivated Tehran's move, diplomats and experts say that Rohani's declaration not only will not appease international concerns about Iran's determination to set up a nuclear arsenal, but also convince the United States and the European Union to increase pressures on the Islamic Republic to stop all its atomic projects, or face drastic international sanctions. Ummmm... if Iran really really wants satellite guided missiles running up their wazzoo's wouldn't it be faster to just invade Iraq ?
