B4 The Bell, Moonday April 19

:D Welcome to a new week at B4 the Bell! :D

B4 may be taking some time off the next day or two ( :( ) but carry on bears!

Shattered dreams:

Looking to collect assets - and the fees they generate - stockbrokers have found people considering retirement to be receptive and trusting targets. Some companies even provide lists of prospective retirees to local brokerage firms.

As long as workers remain at their jobs, their company retirement savings stay out of the reach of stockbrokers. Thus, brokers have an incentive to recommend that workers accept early retirement offers. And like the Huffs, many investors, believing brokers' promises of stock market riches, have lost both their incomes and much of their savings.

A golden age for commodities:

The two-year bull market in commodities still could have some room to run, despite last week's drop in the price of everything from gold to hogs.

That is because expanding economies, especially in the U.S. and China, are fueling demand for raw materials for industrial use. Meanwhile, the supplies of many commodities are tight, due to lack of investment in mines and other facilities in recent years, low stockpiles at the supplier level and transportation bottlenecks.

A continued rise in prices could help convince the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates sooner rather than later, to keep America's economy from overheating. Still, some commodity anal cysts say U.S. interest rates are so low that they have a long way to go before they can damp demand enough to hurt commodity prices.

"You've got a lot of room to go" for commodity prices, says Jeff Christian, managing director of commodities consulting and research firm CPM Group. "There are bigger longer-term issues, economically, beyond cyclical reflation or a movement in the dollar."

You can fool some investors some of the time:

"The market can only be 'fooled' if 1) credibility of the company is high, 2) medium and long-term portfolio refreshment is real and/or 3) positive trends can be shown on key indicators," he said.

Well, that last trade was a dud - quick reversal and 30 pip stop. I have to learn to stop trying breakout scalp trades during BOJ regular business hours.

I notice the index futures have recovered nicely, with the upward movement beginning in earnest right around 3:00 a.m. of course. Of note, it took some jamming just to get them up to fair value territory. They might not be able to hold it.
