Doctors Doing Too Many Colonoscopies

By Steven Reinberg

HealthDay Reporter

MONDAY, Aug. 16 (HealthDayNews) -- Many doctors are performing unnecessary colonoscopies, a new study says.

The findings suggest physicians are not following clinical guidelines and overusing the screening test for colon cancer. In turn, this strains an already limited resource and eats up manpower and money, according to the report in the Aug. 17 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.

J6P still doesn't have a friggin' clue. Here in beautiful NJ workers are striking the Nestle plant. Little do these morons know they will soon be out of jobs altogether when the plant which has been operating on less than full steam for years is closed and they are sent packing. Lots of plants in not so union friendly areas of this great union.

had the same thought at the gym earlier today. still talk of hot housing market and buying, still new cars pulling up in the lot. im talking young people too - hey a new home in carlsbad, CA aint cheap, particularly if you aint trading up. honestly, the lack of fear that i see in real estate and other areas has led me to question my own beliefs. ive just been so wrong for so long!

edit: didnt see mark's post, but ive been telling you gas is cheap out here! im also amazed by Monster trucks that are so big that i just pull to the slow lane and let them pass - they always seem to tailgate. do i get a pretty blond too if i buy a hummer?

OT/Sherlock, it works! i found my keys.... great B-day present

Happy Birthday, PeeBrain! and I wish you many, many more.

This may surprise you, but I already knew you had found your keys.

Anyway, you're welcome! LOL

Rumor has it that the refiners are cutting their margins in an attempt to keep retail prices stable, so that the public doesn't become outraged at price gouging.

Anything's possible, Wndy, but I've never seen it happen before -- not even back in the 70s when the oil companies were the most hated in the world.

I still lean toward the oil execs wanting to keep former oil execs in power... B)

thank you Sherlock.... BTW, i am a believer.

40 was easy, i blew right through it... 49 is a little tough, im closer to the end than the beginning and mortality sucks  . i go into SBUX with my son (very handsome STUD water polo player, looks like his mom) and the hot 23 yo counter girl looks right past me to him. what is up with that! im still totally hot for her and i dont feel old, but they look right past me to my 15 yo son :o . im leaving him home  i did 1 hr on cross country ski machine, 15+ miles on the stationary bike in an hr this morning, and then went back this afternoon and ran for 30 minutes and lifted heavy. if only the girl from SBUX could have seen me  !!!!! just cant shake the funk, im getting older; sometimes God has a shitty sense of humor  , although the alternative is worse.

It takes more than oil to keep the world growing! I hadn't thought of this one:

Cement shortage hits US housing boom

Construction demands in China are one factor crimping global cement supplies and affecting 29 US states.

?"It's impacting customers, employees, company profits, and building projects all over the US," says Puckett. Delays and canceled projects are reported from retirement condo projects in Florida to housing developments in Phoenix to casino building in Las Vegas. "Everywhere there is construction, there are cement customers lined up without enough supply to keep them happy," he says.

The limited number of barges and shipping lines to bring the imported cement to US shores is adding to the problem. The demand for rebuilding in Iraq, and building projects from Hong Kong to Singapore, have significantly diverted supply ships to those countries. The supplies that are making it to US ports have been bottlenecked by transportation woes, observers say.?

Does this mean we can't blow up anymore countries due to insufficient resources

to rebuild them?

For the sake of disclosure, the 97/98 bullish reversal started under similar circumstances, as the bearish crossover ran out of steam and turned back upwards. It could happen again, though it's worth mentioning that that low came on the heels of some fairly real selling and fear, not this mellow-yellow namby-pamby kind of low macd stuff masquerading as Dover Sole.

In 1998 the 200 dma was moving up smartly. In 2000 (and 2004) the 200 dma rolled over as the 50 dma crossed -- and that's more bearish. ;)

Congratulations on 49 of them Pee.

I'm reminded by what you say about the girls, of the "Cheers" sketch when Ted Dansons character was so hot for a customers daughter, and she said "nice to meet you, sir" Danson was devestated and said "No, don't call me sir. Gee".

Never thought I'd see 60 of them.

MWH, could you expand on your thoughts regarding the 50/200 MA difference? seems that the 50 MA could be extended and do to cozzy up closer to the 200? or is it just gonna drag the 200 down with it?

Pee - I've been wanting to tell you for some time now that our 3 year old loves your avatar and even knows your name. Seems we may have a mini-stoolie in our midst. :D

I think the answer is that either could happen, as illustrated by the 4 convergences since 1996. Two were bullish, two were bearish. Two were clean breaks and two were fakeouts. There you have it - on the face of it, perfectly even odds of the scenario being bullish vs. bearish. I should add that I'm purposely not looking at any other TA in putting together these charts, since I'm aware of the bullish counts out there and some of them are sufficiently credible to be worthy of consideration.

If the index rallies back towards the crossover point before collapsing, we could get a repeat of the August 2000 scenario. Yet there isn't a rule that says this has to happen. In March 2003, after a couple of weeks of intertwining, the 50 appeared to break away from the 200 but then abruptly turned back up again.

It's also dangerous to attach too much importance to the ma action - let's never forget the dog is price while the ma is its tail and not the other way round. :D That's the main reason why I think it's essential to be in bear mode below both the 50 and 200, bull mode above both, and cautious inbetween.

SJ - how I love pulling out my old E&M and flipping through to pg 88 - some wise words on the topic of the complex H&S to give a bear hope while warning us that it may not be easy. For example, the Budd illustration from 1946 on pg 86 includes a spike back through the neckline that must have appeared like a failed formation.

There is something about Multiple Head-an-Shoulders patterns especially pleasing to technical chart followers.  Because of their symmetrical tendencies, it is fascinating to watch them evolve to completion.  Once completed, however, they may try your patience by their seeming reluctance to "get going" with a new trend.  On that account, it becomes easy at times to jump to the conclusion that they have "blown out," i.e., produced a false signal.  Actually, except in the matter of extent of move which we have already discussed, they are fully as reliable as the plain Head-and-Shoulders.  False moves are relatively rare with both.  And in those extraordinary cases when a Complex formation does go wrong, it still stands, like the plain Head-and-Shoulders, as a warning that the final reversal is near.
