Health Care Discussion Revived

I am just glad I had coverage last year,my sinus surgery and crap afterwards would have cost me almost 6 figures without insurance. :glare:

23 years of headaches finally gone,I never would have gone through the surgery at my own expense.

Some people start a small business, claim over 75% or more of the income as expenses to get their income level very low and then go to some local health charity organization or hospital nearby that provides care to all low income people and they get their health care for nothing.

Oh yeah. I know so many people who do that.

All the time.

Start a business, declare 75% expenses, and get free health care. Why didn't I think of that!

Damn freeloaders.

When I was a landscaper,MANY years ago....I had all my insurance under the business and I saved lots of cash.Even after I sold it,I kept the insurance under my corp for several years to keep the policies.I saved a bundle on car insurance because i was in my early 20's and the insurance company would rape me on an individual policy.

I wonder if it's a dirty little secret the IRS probably hasn't got time for. My auto mechanic does it and it makes me wonder why he charges so much. The new Harley looks nice. The monthly payment is an expense.

Hanky, why not lie on your app? How are they going to know what your prior conditions are?

After the "reform" is fully in, we'll all be in a national database which will be scavenged for pre-existing condition nonsense. After they cross reference you with your entire family everyone will be mandated to pay a bloody fortune.

I had to sue an insurance company 18 years ago or so.I got bit by a tick and got diagnosed with Lyme disease at the time.It was a fairly new policy, but because I went to the doctor for" headaches" before I got the policy it was a pre existing condition .....since a "headache" is one of the zillion symptoms of Lyme.

It turns out I got misdiagnosed and never did have Lyme.

I sued their ass off and won,but only got a few grand more than the cost of the lawsuit.

I now disclose everything, otherwise they will not pay the bills if they look at my medical records and find out I "left something out" .It's total bullcrap, but I disclose EVERYTHING now.

As for insurance for those of us with pre-existing bullcrap, all states were required to have started their programs this summer, either offering their own or the Federal government sponsored program. Expensive as hell, but available. Price varies from state to state.

Here are the premiums for NV.

The monthly premiums for your state are: Age 00-34 35-44 45-54 55+

$335 $402 $513 $714

Two adults and a child are $1139 a month, that's hardly a great deal. $13,668 a year is alot of money to see a doc once or twice. Realistically who has that money to spend who is making less than $80k a year?

But what if you just tell them you have no medical records?

I was going to apply for extra life insurance through my employer this year but was put off by the highly invasive questions which were screaming "pre-existing conditions". Do they have any way to check the answers? Some kind of online database?

Telling the truth is hazardous to your wallet these days, that's why Wall Street lies all the time.

That's not far from what we pay. I voted for O and its the same old sheet. The health care bill is 12000 pages of toilet paper.

I have to know I have good coverage,If I get hit by a drunk driver here in vegas with no insurance,I am screwed.I could incur 100's of thousands (or more) in medical bills in just a few months and wipe me out.

Half the asswipes in this city have no insurance or 15k minimum coverage.I saved too long to be wiped out by an illness or accident. :ninja:

With my luck,ANYTHING can happen....

You really aren't suggesting that he commit fraud, are you? I sincerely hope that your tongue is planted in your cheek. And yes, there are insurance databases, and if you lie and get caught, not only will they not pay when you need it, you will never get insurance again. Unlike the government, the insurance companies enforce consequences. They will look for any reason not to pay.

This kind of sick thinking is emblematic of the entitlement society, where lying and cheating to get what you want is perfectly ok. People have no concept of ethics or morality. Their everyday lives are moral cesspools. No wonder we are in deep shit.

That's what you're paying. Only you don't know it because your nanny employer just diverts it from your paycheck and doesn't tell you. Nice little fantasy.

What I don't get is that health insurance is so difficult or extremely expensive for so many and yet in this current election cycle running against Obama's modest changes continues to gain support. Supporting a public health plan gets one labelled as a socialist. I would have thought with so many worries out there alleviating one, health insurance would be popular.

The majority gets "free health care" from their employers.

Of course, the fact that they are paying 10-25k a year for it never enters their mind because the cost is hidden. It's one of the reasons everything is so inflated.
