Guest
From yesterday's SPACE.COM: The Sun today unleashed what appears to be the third most powerful flare in recorded history, a storm of charged particles that could hit Earth mid-day Wednesday with more effect than any since 1989, when an entire Canadian province had its power knocked out. Depending on the storm's magnetic orientation, it could set off a dramatic display of colorful northern lights well into mid-latitudes of the United States and Europe . . . . . . Aurora are created when the charged solar particles stream down Earth's magnetic field lines and excite oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the atmosphere. Normally the aurora are only visible from places near the poles, like Alaska. But when Earth's magnetic field is overwhelmed, the aurora can dip will into the United States and Europe. Wednesday evening could provide the best chance to see aurora for U.S. residents. Those in the far north may see activity pick up tonight and endure into Thursday . . . machinehead
Mexico sold 20-year peso-denominated bonds to set a benchmark rate for corporate borrowers, less than a decade after the government couldn't find buyers for fixed-rate debt with maturities longer than three months. Loco for bonds At the peak of a boom, the far corners of the earth are scoured for yields, and unlikely speculations. The Mexican peso has regularly blown out every decade, and will do so again. As the article notes, the government created demand by mandating that Mexican pension funds hold 90% domestic investments. Shame about Jose and Juana Seispak and the kids, after the peso blows ... Guest jrmfl
"A tipping point nears: Where we shift from deflation to hyperinflation. A subtle point that is ill defined. After the transition, even the most brilliant of economists will not agree on what has transpired. But the symptoms will be undeniable: The technical behavior of the market will change: Subtly at first, then with astonishing volatility. Technical analysis will fail the traders. Market timers will be confounded. This includes many in the gold camp. Traditional investment strategies will act like a ring in the nose of the gold traders, leading them away from the obscene potential in the gold markets. This can already be seen on a small scale, as dips are bought with increasing aggressiveness ahead of the technical anal cyst?s expectations. This implies that new money is moving into the market: Money that will behave very differently. There will come a day where the gold traders stand in awe of a missed move upwards, tied to a post by the ring in their nose. This may take place after a liquidity induced decline, but you can prudently hedge your gold shares position with a decent bear fund rather than try to time your trades. Regardless gold shares would likely recover in a few months, so I choose to stay long and strong. The biggest threat to your upside in this market is thinking that the tug on your nose is leading you to the feeding trough, when in fact it is now time for the slaughterhouse." THE GOLDEN NOSE RING, an interesting read... hyperinflation the worst of all possible outcomes imo

gruff
Leeds Rules! NORFOLK, Va. - A robot dog that "breaks wind" set off a security scare at the Norfolk, Va., airport, it was reported Saturday. Security officials jumped on high alert when the toy's wind-breaking mechanism registered as a high explosive on sensitive monitoring equipment, the BBC reported. Dave Rogerson, 31, of Thorner, Leeds, England, told the BBC he watched incredulously as FBI agents took a series of swabs from the mechanical toy's rear end. The toy was eventually returned to him, but Rogerson was not allowed to take his planned flight and had to take an alternative route to North Carolina. "There's no humour at American check-ins and for about 20 minutes I was quite scared," he told the BBC. "They were very jumpy and convinced there was something ex- plosive in the dog." Rogerson, however, maintained his sense of humour and said he decided to name his toy Norfolk. LOL, gruff

Bearbones
The Fed re-filled the punchbowl yesterday and everybody had a nice few sips. Today's dividend discount model result: Microsoft: $13.34 Just so you don't think I'm picking on the techs look at this one: PG: $113 This is just what the model produces given the current state of affairs with profit growth and interest rates. I use it as a tool for longer term investing as opposed to trading.
