Guest
The day's direction hasn't really asserted itself yet but so far its looking kind of weak. All Ords up a touch after a couple of dips into the red. Golds are starring, mostly up 1-2%. Nikkei has opened up; a bit early for the other Asian markets. alceringa
Wall Street: We're open for business Exchanges, back-office operations run on backup power NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Despite the havoc unleashed by a massive blackout throughout the Northeast, U.S. markets and other financial institutions say they're ready to resume trading as usual on Friday -- even if it means using backup power. Market officials and Wall Street's big banks reported few, if any, glitches in their trading rooms after the outage hit. Along with the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq, most trading firms quickly switched over to battery-generated power. ...."No data from today's trading has been lost," the NYSE said in a statement. "In addition, SIAC (the exchange's data-processing arm) is operating at normal capacity on generator power. The NYSE is prepared to open on generator power." Ray Pellechia, a spokesman for the exchange, said it was too soon to tell whether there was any damage sustained from the sudden power loss. Nasdaq said its computer facility was operating on backup power. After-hours trading continued on the Island ECN and Archipelago networks.See BS and Market Hype

Guest
Ok lots of excitement generated (so to speak) by that power outage in the US/Canada... Don't think it influenced the market action here but it was a fairly bearish day anyway. All Ords attempted a rally early on which more or less doubletopped and fell away to a consolidation at the low and finally a very satisfactory plunge into close. All Ords closed almost flat. Get to scrounge through the weekly charts on the weekend looking for trend changes and I think I might just find some. Be a nice change if I do.. Lihir Gold did a jump today but the others messed around with not a lot of decisive action. Nikkei and Singers red with Honkers barely black... longOnUranus
My Prediction: HUGE down day in the US tommorrow. I'll stake my reputation, as a 52 year old virgin eunuch priest in Boston, on it. A social mood shift, an awakening of sorts, the kind you get when you dodge a bullet. A submission to The Man that all that is earthly can be fleeting, a re-direction of gaze. Granted, my short positions would benefit from such a mood shift, and that, in fact, I am as guilty as those I ridicule. The difference is living with Hope vs. living with Faith. And the standoff will be against bulls and bears, who are both scared beyond belief, as opposed to confident. AND it is an OPEX Friday. And it occurs at near record complacency. AND it occurs extremely close to a Dow Theory Buy signal. Dear God, how much more perfect could you make this show tommorrow?
