Today, instead of seeing the corpse of a republic in which we live, we see merely the dead man?s clothing. Those clothes look the same as ever, albeit increasingly worn. We have had a quiet revolution that has not eliminated our Congressional representatives ? it?s simply made them largely irrelevant.

Full court PR press to invade Iran...Venezuela...

Market meter will be late tonight. You know in two years it has only been wrong once and that was only for a day.

Tampa stores are out of batteries, water, bread. Highways north are getting crowded.

Plunger - if we don't invade Iraq, Iran and Venezuela there

will not be enough preparation H.

Some people may be pissed off because of what I

feel like saying, but here goes.

I went to the ATM today, which was busy. I drove a small

ford escort and I turned off the engine and did my business there.

Three other drivers in very large SUV and Trucks ran their engines

while they stood in line and did their withdrawls.

I was raised in a home where we were told to shut out lights,

save energy save money.

All the time I see the SUV drivers waste waste and waste and it pisses me

off cause when I was a kid we would get yelled out if we didn't

save energy and money. Makes me want to smack 'em. Kids are dying because of oil - how about a little concern for that. Cut the engine, dammit.

Am I wrong here?

ps - I can afford a Ferrari if I wanted to get from point A to point B and look like a rich asshole.

I have to agree with you.

It was amazing to return back to FL.

So many large SUV's. It must be the hard winters in FL.

I notice not as many SUV's in New England. No place to park them.

Every time I see a Hummer makes me want to walk up to the and just say.

" What is wrong with you. Why are you stealing everyones oil. "

One has to wonder why the Bush administration has selected such a risky strategy [as the Najaf offensive], fraught with possibly disastrous consequences. The only explanation that makes sense is that the administration is desperate. In Iraq, US control is slipping away one city at a time, a process that actually accelerated after the "transfer of sovereignty" on June 28. A dramatic military offensive may be the only way the administration can imagine - especially since its thinking is so militarily oriented - to reverse this decline.

I agree with Stain tomorrow could be soft and up or sideways to up, sooo let your stops take you out and keep them just over resistance. This is far from over and I should also point out that there are so many external events weighing on the market that any one reaching a lance point could send us straight down the elevator shaft. Don't even think about going long unless you are fully hedged or straddled. Having said the above as always it is subject to change it's a long night! ;)

Will it be possible that the gold stocks may also go down if the market is hit hard?

It is possible that if the market starts dumping, greensin may start pumping the $US up.

I think gold stock will move up.

GIs: Why are we here?

RAMADI, Iraq Four months into their tour of duty at one of the most dangerous American bases in Iraq, young marines say the slow pace of progress is shaking their faith in their mission.

Playing cards one recent evening while on call to respond to any sudden outburst of violence, Lance Corporal David Goward and the rest of his squad voiced two growing concerns: that the U.S. military would linger here indefinitely and that the troops' very presence was provoking the fighting it was meant to stop.

No Depends, you are not wrong. I think the republic is dead not because the democratic process has been almost completely coopted, but because culturally we are so narciscistic that nothing and noone else matters.

This country needs a draft like there was no tommorow. And a fair one, so the senators' sons come home in the condition that the current GIs do. It is the only dose of reality that could cure us; I think that it will never happen.

If we don't consider our actions in the context of the other 6 billion souls on the planet, then we are just as selfish and conceeded as we are thought to be.

Doc:  If I am not mistaken the dems including Kerry were all over the medicare drug bill.  A direct subsidy to the big drug companies.  I do not argue with your complaints of price gouging etc.;  but please do not think the dems are any different.  Want free mkts?  Vote libertarian.

Wasted vote.

Also with big cartels, and corporate fascism, libertarianism is NOT the answer. Gummit must act as a regulator and controller. It may be impossible, but without constraints, the corporations will eventually burry us. The invention of the corporation is the greatest evil ever to befall mankind. They are soulless, heartless, immoral hierarchies dedicated only to the enrichment of the oligarchs at the expense of individuals. A populist government, while perhaps no longer possible, is the only thing that would stand between the corporations, and their absolute power and domination over our lives.

Doc, I enjoy your political interpretations! :P

Please don't hold back your true feelings!

What you say makes sense to me... BWTFDIK

I may not understand all this mess like some other posters here,

but it appears to me that "We The Sheeple" are getting a real screw job.

Did someone say that Bush is giving out free samples of Preparation-H?

Just for spite, I'll buy my own Nupercainal instead!

I went to the store tonight and started sounding off (inspired by TE)

and in the heart of this heavy Republican territory, I was shocked

to hear the Sheeple saying "this guy has got to go!"

So after my rabble-rouser episode, I returned home to quaff a beer.

Gawd, it feels good to say what you really think! :D

Maybe tomorrow I'll leave my cave to commit some more sound offs.

Is it possible to instigate a revolt by the Sheeple People?

Hmmmmmmm!!!

Well it's nice to hear others who agree.

Tanks all.

Will put up the chart when we get the server running again.

My office is on the waterfront in Clearwater, so we moved the computers and files to my home off Highland street at one of the highest points in the county. Looks like Charlie could be real bad.

Great war posts - Now if only the democrats could see that the war must end they might get my vote, even though I will always think that Kerry is an ass.

Did I mention I was short HPQ today. Ha. What a day. Closed 19 positions as I was overloaded short and with the storm coming. Still have 16 positions short open with tight stops and do they ever suck. Needless to say It was a very good day. Ususlly I keep only about 10 positions open - I got carried away!

But what I dont understand is the headline at Bloopbergs tonight.
