The Rehnquist mystery deepens. I expect him to see him soon, propped up between two 'white shirts' on the Supreme Court bench, looking like that dead character in Weekend at Bernie's, with his judicial cloak covering up a thin hospital gown while making his ruling on Kerry v. Bush. :o :D :P

The need for a tracheotomy in the chief justice's case implies a number of possibilities, said Dr. Paul W. Ladenson, a thyroid expert at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore who is president of the American Thyroid Association. One is that the cancer was squeezing on the windpipe, impairing breathing.

Another is that the two recurrent laryngeal nerves that control the voice box were accidentally or purposely cut in surgery or that the cancer had spread to invade the nerves, Dr. Ladenson said. He also said the fact that Chief Justice Rehnquist's voice recently became hoarse suggests that the problem may have resulted from an invasion of the nerves. In such cases, a tracheotomy may be needed to help a thyroid cancer patient speak.

Still another possibility is that Chief Justice Rehnquist may have needed a tracheotomy because of lung damage that resulted from being a longtime smoker.

The court did not say whether the tracheotomy was temporary or permanent. Because it usually takes some time for patients to adapt to a tracheotomy and to care for it, like learning to clean it to avoid blockage and infections, the experts said they were surprised that Chief Justice Rehnquist was expected to return to the court next Monday.

You can download a great video of Katherine Harris (R-FL) fondling, flirting with and groping Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ) on Oct. 7 right in front of cameras on the floor of the US House of Representatives.

Both of these Repubs are married and Renzi has 12 children.

Repub values... a beacon for the rest of us.

pbs aired a program on the 1929 stock market crash.

Very interesting. I did not realize all the similarities to todays economy.

They showed clips of many wall street players including Jesse Livermore.

The insiders would pump and dump stocks on unsuspecting investers.

I understand it was legal then.

Debt was incredibly high. People were buying cars like crazy. Traveling and partying , extending credit as far as they could. Noone thought the party could ever end. Banks were easily extending credit and people were buying all the stock they could for 10% down. Some margin- 10 to1.

Many wealthy stockholders were on ther way back to New York from Europe via ship on that fateful day. By the time they entered port in New York many were penniless.

Scary. I wonder if 75 years from now we will be watching the same story with only names and dates changed.
