Oh dear...it's on again, the skimpy coverup. The mayor attempting to promote Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a "family town"...

Goldfields Skimpies are being told to 'cover up' and comply with existing legislation governing the modesty of bar workers.

Kalgoorlie is well known for its skimpies who serve drinks in 'costumes' or underwear and take the time to chat to their customers, often providing entertainment.

During their shift the girls also pass around the 'titty-kitty', usually a beer jug, to collect tips from their patrons and will then remove their tops for half an hour. Current rules mean the girls wear stickers to cover their nipples.

Acting Superintendent Dale Davies says the police are just reinforcing to licensees what their responsibilities are. "We are simply bringing Kalgoorlie into line with the rest of the State."

Well okay, we did see some green today but I'm not convinced it's all over by a long shot. All Ords +0.9%, Miners were way out in front, +3.9% followed by Materials +3.6% and Energy +2.8%. The rest of the sectors pretty much languished: Property Trusts -2.2%, Consumer Staples -1.5% and Financials -0.7%.

Big gains on the big miners: BHP +4%, RIO +3.6%. Golds flew: Lihir +6.3%, Newcrest +5.5% and Newmont +3.6%. Juniors mostly up.

Oils producers did well: Woodside +4.7% and Santos +2.7%. Caltex came in at -0.9%.

Asia mixed, yet again... China -0.8%, Honkers +1.4%, India -0.2%, Nikkers -0.2% and Taiwan +2.4%.

July 11 (Bloomberg) -- Sales of New Zealand houses slumped for a fourth straight month in June as record-high interest rates curtailed demand for property.

The number of homes sold dropped 42.4 percent to 4,305 from 7,474 a year earlier, according to a report from the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand Inc. e-mailed to Bloomberg News today. Sales were at the lowest level since December 1991.

Japan Consumer Sentiment Fell to Record Low in June

July 11 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese consumers became the most pessimistic they've been in at least 26 years as higher gasoline prices and food costs eroded their spending power.

The sentiment index dropped to 32.6 last month from 33.9 in May, the Cabinet Office said today in Tokyo, the lowest since the government began compiling the figures in 1982.

So do we still get the Lemon event?

"Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., the securities firm that lost almost 75 percent of its market value this year, sank to the lowest since 2000 in New York trading as customers' votes of confidence failed to halt speculation that the stock may drop further."
