Thales
I'll tell you guys what you are missing. I was a college student when facebook came out. They do something real. It is attractive to 18-25 year olds. Plus a hell of alot of 25-40 year olds. Do they have a workable money making business model? Probably not. What you are buying with an IPO is: Can they make a workable money making business model? The answer is yes, but is it worth all the hype? My answer: Who fucking cares... For the next couple of years it is worth the hype. This stock will not tank. It may take a small dive based on market conditions. But facebook still has hype! If I were a longterm investor would I buy facebook? HELL NO... I'd prob. wait till Amazon or Apple hit bottom...

This has nothing to do with facebook, business model works....for now.If I did get some shares (which i probably won't) I would flip them the first freakin day. The hype is put out to create the illusion of a stable "normal" market. But we may never REALLY have that again.

I remember the days when there were no cell phones, no email, just the landline, a message machine if you installed one and, of course, postal mail. Back then, life was more peaceful and enjoyable. You could enjoy a certain level of anonymity and if you just wanted to be left alone, that was usually no problem. I really miss those days. Thales
Don't pitty me... I havn't been on facebook in years. My cell phone is an old school flip phone, no internet, no apps, But it does make a pretty mean phone call!... I cant stand the way our society is heading towards faces submerged 24/7 in a 4 inch screen... The day I have any power and someone trys to pull out a cell phone in a meeting or lunch I will fire them! But honestly, I don't ever want that type of job... where previous generations signed up and bought in... I want to unplug and cash out.

Goldmember
The little berg I grew up in had a neat phone system. We had full phone numbers with area code and all that but a local call could be dialed without the area code, no 3-number prefix, and since all local numbers started with "2" as the first number in the last 4 number combo, all we needed to do was dial the last three numbers. If my friends wanted to get a hold of me for whatever all they had to do was dial 369...on a rotary phone. We could call faster on those old rotaries, needing only 3 numbers, than any smart phone today.

I was on a flight in the late 80's with a bunch of engineers from TI who were oohing and ahhing over a lugable PC I had. They were so excited that one could do work on on airplane! I told them that if you had to do that kind of thing you were in too deep. Have a beer and read a good book instead. Guess it didn't stick. Awesome - a place in Circus Circus is one of those we'd have never found or considered ourselves. Thanks! We went to Carnevino last year - it was good, but not quite what we're looking for in a steakhouse (i.e., not old school enough).

I am not sure how old you actually are, but I take it you must be pretty young. When I said I felt sorry for you, I meant that you have never really known what the world was like without cell phones, internet, email, social media etc. Things have changed so fast it seems.
