DrStool
Twister ends in June.... Operation Twist is not behind this rally. Twist is a wash to Primary Dealers. The MBS purchase program is the driver. Those settlements will continue until August, and the Fed will have no choice but to extend the program in some form. Stay up to date with the machinations of the Fed, Treasury, Primary Dealers and foreign central banks in the US market, along with regular updates of the US housing market, in the Fed Report in the Professional Edition, Money Liquidity, and Real Estate Package. rdkyote
wasn't it the LTRO? Plus the QE3 clamoring restarted around dec-jan.
DrStool
Yes, the LTRO was important. Hard to say how much it was responsible for, but it clearly was a large player. Now no more LTRO. Twist was a zero. MBS was a plus.

shorty
I think it was a combination of factors including the housing bottom, the economic recovery, tremendous shovel-ready job production, greenshoots, wealth creation from the gov't backed solar companies, and the stimulus of all those food stamps and unemployment checks. I don't believe the gov't manipulates the stock market in any way. What we have are free, fair, orderly, open and honest markets. The fact that the entire stock market has more than doubled in the last three years is simply a reflection of improving economic reality, as anyone can see -- things are great now for most families money-wise, and getting even better every day. shorty
Maybe the bulls are right after all -- there's very little risk in stocks right now, they're cheap at these levels. Oh sure, there could be a minor correction now and then, but those are just buying opportunities. The only real risk is NOT buying stocks, then you miss out on the easy money while everyone else around you gets richer every day. Fortunately, with both AAPL and GOOG easily headed over 1,000 there's still plenty of time to deploy the huge piles of excess sideline cash so many folks have been hoarding. If they buy now they can scoop up these undervalued tech stocks while they're still bargains, and begin enjoying their fair share of the booming economy.
