Slappy
I got some info today on the Marcellus shale play that may be of use to the Nat Gassers. It seems that the permits for wellsites have increased YOY this year, and the number of wells permited per wellsite is increasing from a handful to as many as several dozen. There is also talk that they are now testing a formation fracturing process that uses propane as the fracturing fluid. The company doing this job is tight lipped so there is very little information about how well this works, and it may be too early to tell. My thoughts on this are that they are apparently putting a lot of effort to more massively fracture the shale zones. The interesting part is the use of the propane as the frac fluid. Usually it's water, and we all know that water and hydrocarbons don't mix very well. The AHA! here is that water has probably been putting an immiscible seal on large portions of the shale which would hinder the free flow of the gas through the rock. Using propane will largely eliminate this effect, the only real question is if the increased cost of the propane can be paid off with some amount of increased production. Either way, it looks like more supply, and most likely low NG prices, until they find some new large market like converting most cars to NG. North America would not need to import any petroleum for fuel at all if we utilized our natural gas and coal resources. RTK is a company that has a proven and patented technology to convert nat gas, biomass, and coal to a fuel that is usable by current vehicles. They signed a contract to supply 8 airlines at the LA airport, have a super-clean jet fuel approved by the U.S. Air Force, and today announced that they have signed an agreement with an Australian company that may build a plant based on their tecnology, to convert the Aussie company's huge natgas reserves into fuel. This is one of my infamous basket of little crappers that will either hit it big, or go bankrupt. I'm hoping it does not decide to fill the gap from about 4 months ago before it goes back up. Of course, because this is a company that could provide tens of thousands of jobs in North America, and could totally change the power dynamics of the oil-based economies like Venezuela and the middle east, their technology will probably continue to be ignored. The gov't is not interested in creating any productive jobs at all. They want only to "save" non-productive jobs that cannot support themselves in the real economy because nobody wants to pay for the useless crap they do. These "saved" jobs consume and destroy wealth, they don't produce wealth. If they did, they would not need any gov't handouts ripped outta the asses of their taxpaying neighbors. Of course the gov't knows this. Their goal is to destroy as much private sector wealth as possible, and to punish all productive work. Any jobs they do "create" are non-productive make-work, nonsensical demoralizing "cultural" crap, or paper-shuffling regulation and harassment of productive citizens. Anyone who denies this is either a moran or is hoping to get their hands on some of their neighbors' wealth.
