B4 The Bell, Moonday, June 7

Recommended Posts

I'm seeing simalarities between today and Friday morning, that is, as the market moves higher the size on the ask on the majority of stocks I'm watching continues to be well in excess of the bid size. Who knows where the buying is coming from, short covering or momentum players, but it still looks like distribution going on to me.

A week-long Republican love fest that totally changes the subject and takes the heat off the present administration's lies? Closing the Government on Friday (and presumeably the markets as well?) to engage in the Government Mandated National Day Of Mourning to honor a former President's passing? Has this occurred in the past on the death (by natural causes) of a former President? Will this occur in the future when Carter dies? Is the Government being used in a political way, just prior to elections? Would criticism of this week-long Republican propoganda coup, supported by taxpayer dollars, be perceived as unAmerican? What is the cost of this decision?

Yes it is typical that a national day of mourning be declared when a pResident passes on. However Nixon was not accorded the same level of pomp and circumstance, maybe because of his inglorious downfall from office.

Yes it is fortunate for GWB at this time, and yes it would not be a good week to mention that interest rates reached their peak during the Reagan years - as the bond market choked on high budget deficits.

Judge Puts off First Enron Trial

By Kristen Hays The Associated Press

Published: Jun 7, 2004

HOUSTON (AP) - A federal judge on Monday postponed the first Enron Corp. criminal trial until August after lawyers informed him the proceedings will last beyond the scheduled time period.

U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein indicated that it was likely the trial, set to begin Monday with jury selection, would have been interrupted for several weeks. He didn't specify why, although he has noted he has a vacation scheduled to start July 12.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court said Monday it would consider whether people facing bankruptcy can prevent certain retirement savings from being used to pay their debts.

Bankruptcy law protects payments from a person's pensions and annuities, but does not mention Individual Retirement Accounts, which are at issue in a case involving an Arkansas couple.

This is maybe not a good time to be short.

BDK, you've been pretty right about this.

NYSE member buying of stacks is going through the roof - these guys aren't distributing, they are accumulating at his time. How long will it last??
