Spooky alright Gladiator, just like this @#$% market...

We spiralled down nicely after open but then the dippers showed up and we headed north. Close was a bit dodgy though, just like yesterday. However today, unlike yesterday, we didn't actually see green on the index. All Ords closed -5.3 (-0.2%).

Fair bit of green on the screen but most stocks finished off their highs.

Golds starred:

Lihir +2.3%

Newcrest +3.2%

Newmont +2.6%

China plans market closure to help stem Sars

An official at the China Securities Regulatory Commission said bourses are to be closed from May 1 until May 9, with trading resuming on Monday, May 12. A stock market official in Shanghai had earlier said that the break could stretch to May 19, but this proposal was shortened......"However, closing the markets for a longer period might cause alarm among foreign investors. One plus is that the move helps support Hong Kong as the main investment portal for China.".... Link from FT (Free Subscription signup may be required)

Asia-Pacific Markets are mixed near the end of day trading. Some up, some down. No really big movers. The Nick-me is still up above the 7800 line and the Hang-Ten down but above the 8700 line. Yoo-hoo world markets

Uncle Buck- Seem like just yesterday he was 98, now he's 97. He's getting more youthful every day, Eh?
