DrStool
The TARP repayments may ease the Treasury's borrowing requirements for the next couple of months. Not sure what the Treasury will do with the funds. Will be watching tomorrow's auction announcements and the Fed's H41 tomorrow night for clues. If I can divine anything, will discuss in tomorrow's and Friday's Fed reports.
shorty
How can "they", stop the trading of gold over $1000? Who are they? Why $1000. Assuming "they" pull it off what is accomplished? not stop the trading, at any price, just set a conversion price they being the U.S. gov't why 1000 just to keep it simple what is accomplished is baseline valuations for exchanges into a new currency
shorty
Euro was created at $1.17 right? 1/1/1999 the dollar has been so debased in less than a year, with twelve trillion new dollars (twelve million million new dollars) pledged/created/aSSumed out of thin air, in addition to all the previously existing dollars, that to me, I personally believe, like ya know such as, no offense to any U.S. Americans out there whatever they're doing at the moment in South Africa or the Iraq, in my mind, for me, the dollar has now become devoid of any true meaning just a matter of time before some tech college freshman writes a web app to provide a multitude of on-demand roll-yer-own flexible interest-bearing currency exchange units that render FRN's totally obsolete somewhere between one and five million YouTube hits later, the Fed will cease to exist might take about three weeks I'd guess quite frankly I'm surprised it hasn't already happened only interesting part is whether the gov't will beat him to it they best git busy maybe they too dumb though or too distracted, immersed knee-deep in hookers 'N' booze, hungover and dissipated and weary from drinkin' and snortin' and pageboy gropin' best and brightest, our great leaders

POTUS
I am shocked, shocked I say, that anyone would suggest that Bankers make decisions based upon their own personal gain, rather than what is best for their clients and shareholders. I just shocked.

Well hey .. here's the deal for YOU! Get that TARP and pay it right back to the fed. You pay 'em back, n then they don't gotta sell them treasuries so much. Yer get it? ... The thing is they bought Treasuries with the TARP money. The great circle jerk continues. It might be paranoia from watching a silly movie filled with conspiracy tonight but I wonder. Are the banks paying back with cash? Maybe the Fed/Treasury would just take Treasuries as payment. Maybe it wouldn't make any difference. The banks didn't ask for that money. Paulson ordered them to take it. I've never really heard why when I get right down to it. I suspect this whole return the TARP thing is being driven by the Treasury needing the money as much as anything.

Jimbo
THE INSURANCE POLICY THAT MATTERS Goldmember had enough leverage to send it bust but it had an ace in the hole.... a get out of jail free card - AIG as its balance sheet insiurer and when that policy looked shaky AIG had the US taxpayer step in as its balance sheet reinsurer. Multiple lines of defence saved it from destruction Lehman and Bear had plenty of leverage but no balance sheet insurer ............
