Nice drop in the US with Europe following suit but here it's a token selloff so far. All Ords -0.2% with Materials down the most, -0.5% and in the greens, IT and Property Trusts are both +0.3%.

A pullback on the miners after yesterday's surge: BHP -0.8%, RIO -0.4% and the golds down more sharply, in the 1-2% range.

In the oils, Woodside -0.7% and Santos +0.3%.

OPEC Dumps $10.1 Billion of Treasuries as Oil Tumbles

Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- OPEC nations are unloading Treasuries at the fastest pace in more than three years as crude oil prices tumble, sending bond yields higher.

Exporters including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, sold 9.4 percent, or $10.1 billion, of their U.S. government debt securities in the three months ended in November, according to Treasury Department data. Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries last sold Treasuries for three straight months in June 2003.

Oil producers have surpassed Asian central banks as the largest pool of global savings, accumulating an estimated $500 billion in 2006 alone, according to research by Pacific Investment Management Co. The sales during those three months mark a reversal because OPEC countries have boosted their holdings of U.S. government bonds by 70 percent to $97 billion in the past 17 months, Treasury data show.

In the miners, BHP went nowhere, -0.2% but RIO found some traction, +1%. The golds were mixed: Newmont +0.4%, Newcrest -2.6% and Lihir -0.7%.

The oils stagnated: Woodside -0.1% and Santos +0.1%.

Tending to down in Asia: China -2.7%, Sth Korea -0.5% and Honkers -9.6%.

Macau Overtakes Las Vegas Strip in Gaming Revenue

Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Macau's gaming regulator said revenue surged 22 percent in 2006, surpassing the Las Vegas Strip as the world's biggest gambling market, according to industry anal cysts.

The Chinese city's gambling industry reaped 55.9 billion patacas ($6.95 billion) in revenue, according to the Web site of the industry regulator, as billionaires Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn helped build seven new casinos in the period and doubled the amount of gaming tables.

``Macau definitely overtook Las Vegas Strip last year,'' Rob Hart, a Hong Kong-based gaming and property market strategist for Morgan Stanley, said by phone today, estimating the U.S. city's gaming 2006 revenue at $6.5 billion. ``The growth in Macau will be substantially higher than the growth in Las Vegas Strip.''

India Cuts Some Levies to Lower Manufacturing Costs

Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- India's finance ministry cut import duties on alloy steel, cement, copper, aluminum and chemicals such as sulphur to lower manufacturing costs after inflation sped to a two-year high in the first week of this month.

The ministry cut customs levies on primary and semi- finished metals such as aluminum and copper to 5 percent from 7.5 percent, halved it on chemicals such as sulphur and sodium to 5 percent and removed the levy on portland cement.

Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram wants to slow inflation to below 4 percent as his Indian National Congress party prepares to face seven state elections this year. The central bank may follow the finance ministry's fiscal actions by raising borrowing costs at its next quarterly monetary policy statement on Jan. 31 to keep prices under check.

A salty BMW bike anyone?

Beach-combers have been told to stay away, but scavengers are out on Branscombe beach in Devon, where booty is washing up from the stranded ship MSC Napoli.

Brand new BMW motorbikes have been wheeled out of the shingle by keen treasure-hunters. Wine casks, perfume and car parts littering the shore have been rolled clear or tucked under the arm.

People are picking through the contents of spilt containers from the cargo ship MSC Napoli beached off the Devon coast and at night, the area is lit by flickering torches as they scour the area for goodies.

Container load of rubber duckies went overboard in the North Pacific in the early 90's. When they eventually washed up on beaches around the world, Oceanographers used the locations to track ocean currents.

Darn things ended up all over the place. Chile, Malaysia, even Europe.

Go to your favorite beach in a couple of months and pick yourself up a Beamer Bike.

You guys were talking about your first cars last night in M2M.

Mine was a 64 Simca. Black.

I pushed it and pulled it more than I drove it. One time, my cousin was towing me with a rope. It broke. We coasted for awhile, then I pushed it... with one leg, while sitting in the driver's seat steering. Got good mileage. Even better that way.

What a piece of crap. But I will always remember it fondly.
