So far as I know. In the US your average plonker can not short sub $5 (non-marginable?) stocks. I would be interested to hear anyone else's voice on this.

I met a guy,an ex math teacher who does nothing but write covered Calls on tons and tons of Shit stocks--and makes a ton of money--he almost sounds like a Vegas Croupier raking money on a weekly basis--I only met him once through my brother---I asked him to teach me but all I got was a borrowed CD which I never returned

beardrech   Is this the inverse of a shitstock short ,only broker eligible???

I don't understand how one can talk about a short/long system whitout even integrating a minimum of fees and slippage. In the real world, do you really buy 7,000 of Newmont Mining like that without cost and at the price of your signal??? 7,000*36, we are talking about a quarter of million of USD: no fees? Guess if your fees are just 0.5% on entry and exit, half of the profits of the Newmont trade mentionned above disappears...

Just my 2 cents... papertrade is nice even though your remove the toughest part = emotions, but at least use real trading costs and check the feasibility of your trade size

I always incorporate slippage in my models but 0.5% fees? You need a new broker. I pay $10.99 a trade plus exchange fees. This would amount to less than 0.01% on the trade example mentioned above. Depending on the volume traded, price and spread I usually use a slippage of 5 cents or more.

Thanks Thor for that feedback. To be honest 0.5 to 1% is the kind of fees you could expect to trade on foreign market (I mean mostly North American) from France. My broker is not a discount broker and I get 0.45% on french stocks... it is a big drawback if you day trade, which is not my case. But I can get stocks from anywhere in the world if I want for 1%...

According to you, if 5 cents is a common slippage, the trade above should at least experienced a 0.2% charge (I gave you the $10.99 free...), in other words $500... At least this should be incorporated in the system.
