:D Welcome to B4 The Bell! :D

This morning's unemployment report should reflect some of the economic strength of early May. which is now fading. Whether the report will be considered above "expectations" is another matter. After this month's report, we should expect less job growth.

Is Tenet a fall guy?

For Personal Reasons, Or Is He the Fall Guy?

By Glenn Kessler

Washington Post Staff Writer

Friday, June 4, 2004; Page A01

When three hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, killing thousands, no one took the fall in the Bush administration.

When the nation went to war in Iraq on the basis of intelligence about weapons of mass destruction that turned out to be wildly wrong, no one took the fall, either.

So when George J. Tenet resigned as CIA director yesterday, it was no surprise that his departure was choreographed to demonstrate he was not being blamed for any of the intelligence failures that occurred on his watch. The administration line was that he was leaving on his own accord to spend time with his family.

Interesting thread last night. Too small of a hole in the Pentagon. Got that right, one about the size of Delaware would have been better. But if flight 77 didn't hit the Pentagon, where is it and the people who were onboard?

Meteors hit the Earth everyday. Most are unrecognized until they burn up in the atmosphere, and those that do make it through to impact are tiny. Of course our planet is pock-marked by many large impacts, and with 70% of the surface being water, the majority of those major impacts have left no visible evidence. The concept of a South Pole approach angle is compelling, as the planet is almost totally blind in that direction. The knowledge of such an approach could be contained. The Stealth fighter was "hidden" in broad daylight. A tiny glimmer of light, or worse yet a dark body, amid the swirling mass of the universe coupled with the rotation and movement of the planet would make such an approach virtually undetectable.

Something else is happening that is real and documented. That is the weakening of the Earth's magnetic field. Geologic studies of lava flows shows that pole reversals can be almost instant. These same studies show large amounts of magnetic anamolies and a rapid decline in field strength immediately precede a pole reversal. Mind you I'm talking magnetic reversals, not physical pole swapping, which is not to be confused with Eastern European sex parties. Before the reversal the magnetic field completely collapses for varying amounts of time. The elimination of the magnetic field leaves us very vulnerable to all sorts of particle bombardment by our own Sun as well as a general increase in radiation levels though not to levels as to cause any immediate effects. From all of the current data which reveals numerous large areas of magnetic anamolies and a rapidly weakening field strength it would appear that we are on the cusp of a pole reversal. My big question is what does this do to our electrical system and electronics specifically. What happens when "ground" all of a sudden becomes "positive" and visa versa? Given that virtually all electronics contain diodes allowing for one way flow of current, what happens to these devices?

Somedays one gets the feeling that one morning we will wake up, get a pole reversal before noon, a major metor strike before dinner followed up by a global super storm before midnight. At least it won't be another boring day. :P

My casual observations of the P/C ratios show an increase in extremes over the last 4 years. My observation over time has been those extremes normally indicate an impending short term trend change, but sometimes have no correlation. My third observation has been that often the trend change is what is one would expect, but occasionally it is not. Conclusion? I know nothing conclusive by looking at the P/C ratio. But hey I'm a fundamentalist, and as such I cannot "play" the markets in today's environment which is 100% black box TA driven. Everyone is a TA expert, though oddly for a "science", everyone seems to get a different answer. Yet that does not prevent the inevitable follow the leader that occurs. "You must buy XYZ. Why? It's going up. Why is it going up? Because everyone is buying it because the chart looks great with everyone buying it."

Thanks Yobob, for asking the question.

My next door neighbor and her three daughters would like to know as well. Her husband was on that flight.

The Middle-Class Squeeze

By Andrea Batista Schlesinger, AlterNet

June 3, 2004

* More than 92% of the 1.6 million Americans who filed for bankruptcy in 2003 were middle class.

* More than 40 percent of the 2.4 million newly uninsured Americans were in the middle class.

They are worried about their retirements. Even the cost of heating their homes went up 25-40% in 2003. For all of this, they got an average tax cut of $800.

While their financial health has changed over the last thirty years, the other expectations of the middle class, such as a college education, holding a good job, owning a home, have remained the same. As a result, families that find themselves making choices between the gas bill and mortgage payments still consider themselves middle class ? in fact, much of America does.

This contradiction ? between the 'middle class state of mind' and the financial realities of a middle class life ? illustrates a failure of the American dream. And if the dream fails the middle class, it fails those who aspire to work their way up.

Yobob - PBS' Nova did an hour on the weakening magnetic field. The magnetic pole does not invert, but shifts randomly, and does not fix on a point. Yes, it will mean more hits from space, also increased harmful radiation and an increase in cancer.

To date, seven enlisted personnel from a military police company have been charged with crimes in connection with the abuses at Abu Ghraib, all in a single cellblock, known as Tier 1. But most of those soldiers have said that they were acting with the knowledge or encouragement of military intelligence officers, including Colonel Jordan and his immediate superior, Col. Thomas M. Pappas, commander of the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade.

"Wing One was supervised mostly by LTC Steve Jordan," Capt. Donald J. Reese, commander of the 372nd Military Police Company, said in a sworn statement to investigators. "LTC Jordan was very involved with the interrogation process and the day-to-day activity that occurred."

Last November, Colonel Jordan investigated an incident involving Specialist Armin J. Cruz and Specialist Luciana Spencer, both of the 66th Military Intelligence Group. During an interrogation of a male prisoner, they stripped him and Specialist Spencer ordered the prisoner marched back to his cell through the cold, past other detainees.

Both soldiers were transferred to other duties, but were not otherwise punished.

Other soldiers questioned if Colonel Jordan's temperament was appropriate for the job. One military interrogator recalled a briefing of several dozen interrogators and interpreters in which Colonel Jordan made a derogatory remark about Arabs.

"When it came to protecting detainees' rights, it wasn't a big issue," said another military intelligence soldier. "The detainees never really got up to the top of his priority list."

According to one posters last evening it would be a "bonus" to his particular doomsday scenario.

Go figure.

The government will probably pump a very hefty dose of imaginary jobs into tomorrow's Labor report and the result could be unsettling for the financial markets.

When the government announced that 288,000 jobs were created this past April, for instance, that figure included a whopping 270,000 jobs that the Labor Department estimated ? but couldn't prove ? had been created by new companies.
